Is this bonkers new concept the new Peugeot 208, or a mini Tesla Cybertruck?

This is the Peugeot Polygon concept, and it looks like the lovechild between the classic 205 and the space-aged Tesla Cybertruck. Here’s news editor Jamie Edkins to tell you everything you need to know.

Peugeot has just unveiled the new Polygon, a concept car which previews the next-generation 208 hatchback. It certainly looks striking, as any good concept car should, and a production car inspired by this design is expected before the end of the decade.

Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

New Peugeot Polygon design

It doesn’t take long to figure out why Peugeot called this concept the Polygon – it’s very angular.

I reckon from the front it looks a bit like, hear me out, a mini Tesla Cybertruck. There’s something about the stubby bonnet and massive windscreen which reminds me of that sci-fi truck, and the full-width front light bar adds to this as well.

That’s where the Tesla influence ends though. The Polygon has two massive gull wing doors, one on each side, which look wicked but are unlikely to make production.

Then, with those doors shut, it looks an awful lot like the classic Peugeot 205 from the rear quarter. The boxy shape and squared-off rear lights are an obvious homage to that car, as is the Peugeot script on the rear C-pillar.

The production version will be massively toned-down from this concept car, but I’d love to see some of these retro touches when the car does go on sale.

New Peugeot Polygon interior

The Polygon’s interior looks just as insane as the exterior, with red seats which look like they belong in some sort of trendy French wine bar and a peculiar square steering wheel.

That wheel is called the “Hypersquare”, and it incorporates pretty much all of the car’s cabin functions in one place in front of the driver. It’s also a steer-by-wire system, allowing you to go from lock-to-lock without crossing your arms.

You can also see a new iteration of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit dashboard setup, something we first saw on the original 208 from 2012. It started as a small steering wheel with the dials set above it, and the brand has kept with this layout ever since.

The Polygon has all of your driver information projected onto the windscreen in place of having a screen or dials, helping keep the cabin looking clean and futuristic. A lot of this interior design will remain a concept car fantasy, but it could be a preview of future tech we’ll see on Peugeots going forward.

New Peugeot Polygon: what else do I need to know?

Other than the fact it won’t go on sale in this form, not much. The Polygon is likely to inspire the next generation of Peugeot 208, which we expect to see in around 2027. It’s likely to be electric-only as well, although there are no technical specs yet.
