Style
The Suzuki Vitara’s interior lags some way behind most small SUVs in terms of desirability. Its rather dull design isn’t a patch on the Honda HR-V’s futuristic cabin and the plastics on the dashboard and door trims feel far cheaper than what you’ll find in a Peugeot 2008. Besides the leather-trimmed steering wheel – standard on all models – everything feels built down to a price.
Thankfully, it feels like it’ll stand up to a good few years of abuse. The hard plastics will shrug off the worst a family can throw at it and they’ll be easy to clean, too. Mid-range Vitara SZ5 and top-spec Vitara S models feel slightly more upmarket thanks to their partial leather and suede-trimmed seats – but even these feel as if they come from economy-range cows.

The Suzuki Vitara’s simple but effective touchscreen infotainment system sits in its bland cabin like a ripe cherry on top of a rather stale sponge cake. It’s standard on all but entry-level SZ4 models (where it’s a rather expensive £1,250 optional extra) but it’s intuitive and easy-to-use.
The graphics are bright and clear and the menus are logically laid out. It’s easy to quickly switch between the built-in DAB digital radio, sat-nav and phone functions but, if you’d rather use your phone’s apps then you’ll be pleased to know Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring systems come fitted as standard.
There aren’t any physical shortcut buttons and the stereo volume is controlled by a slightly awkward touchscreen slider instead of a simpler knob. The Suzuki Vitara’s stereo sounds fine but high-spec SZ5 models sound slightly crisper thanks to an extra pair of tweeters.
