The Toyota Prius is an economical and genuinely stylish plug-in hybrid which is easy to live with around town.

Toyota has given the latest Prius smooth styling with sleek, aggressive headlights. With a gently sloping roofline and a bluff rear end with a snazzy light bar it’s got bonafide concept car looks.

Inside isn’t quite as outlandish as the exterior, but the large infotainment screen and small driver’s display sat atop of the dashboard are crisp and easy to use. The steering wheel can get in the way of the instruments in certain driving positions though.

Interior space is mixed; while the front seats have plenty of space around them the rear is rather lacking in head room as a result of the sporty roofline. Boot space is poor, and there’s a lack of cabin storage too.

The hybrid engine is the Prius’ calling card, easily achieving 80mpg with the battery topped up or around 50mpg after prolonged use. It’s rather noisy when getting up to speed and there’s a lot of wind and tyre roar on the motorway, so the Prius makes the most sense around town.

Why lease a Toyota Prius?

Leasing a Toyota Prius is a good option if a stylish, economical car to drive around town suits your needs. A good lease deal will be much cheaper per month than the typical Hire Purchase (HP) agreement would cost, and the upfront cost on a lease deal will be a fraction of the cost of an outright cash purchase.

Compared to a Hire Purchase deal, the lower monthly price of a lease deal means that you might be able to afford a higher-spec Prius model, or one with more options selected, than you would with a traditional finance agreement.

You’ll also be able to avoid the depreciation which comes with a lot of plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) when the lease deal has run its term.

When the time comes to return your Prius, you could switch it for a newer version or change vehicle altogether without having to part-exchange or sell your car first. Warranty and road tax is included for the duration of the lease too, offsetting the cost of the lease itself.
