Car changing is a big deal
The BMW X5 is one of the best luxury SUVs out there, and with the new one going on sale soon there are some crazy deals on the outgoing car. Mat Watson explains what makes this car so appealing.
I recently went to see the all-new BMW X5, and on first impressions I really like it. The tech is top-notch, the interior is lovely and it’s hugely spacious inside.

However, the outgoing X5 is still a fantastic car, and is one of my favourite SUVs on sale. If you can’t wait until the end of the year for the new car, you can pick up the current one with some great discounts through Carwow.
Here are three reasons why I love this car.
Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.
Three good things about the BMW X5
1. It’s brilliant to drive
The new BMW X5 has its work cut out if it’s going to be better to drive than the old one, because it sets the benchmark for big SUVs. You wouldn’t think a massive, heavy car like this would be agile through the corners, but the X5 can be a right laugh when you want it to be and is comfy when you don’t.
2. There’s loads of space inside

One area where the old X5 beats the new one is practicality, because it’s available with seven seats. There’s loads of legroom in both the middle and third row, and with the rearmost seats folded away you have a massive 650-litre boot.
3. The interior is lovely

The new X5’s interior may look more impressive, but the outgoing car still feels lovely inside. There’s not a single bit of scratchy plastic in the cabin – everything is covered in either leather, wood or soft-touch materials. The switchgear is all solid as well, and the infotainment system is easy to use.
BMW X5 deals: how to get the best price
The BMW X5 is quite an expensive beast. It starts from around £75,000, but through Carwow you can get one for a lot less than that.
Average savings at the time of writing are a whopping £12,600, and you can get up to £17,000 off the fire-breathing, V8-powered M60i version.
However, with your sensible head on you’d go for the M Sport xDrive 50e plug-in hybrid. It looks good thanks to the sporty styling upgrades, and you can also do up to 64 miles on electric power alone. That’ll keep the running costs down, especially if you’re a company car driver.
This version usually costs just over £82,000, but it’s available through Carwow for as little as £72,000. That’s why it’s important to shop around on Carwow for the latest deals before you buy your next car.
Three annoying things about the BMW X5
As good as the BMW X5 is, there are a few annoying things to consider before you commit to buying one. Here are three examples.
1. Firm on larger alloy wheels

The BMW X5 really looks the part on the larger 22-inch alloy wheels, but they do make it a bit firm over bumps. I reckon it’s worth it for the aesthetic, but if you want maximum comfort then go for the 19- or 20-inch rims.
2. Touchscreen controls

As part of a mid-life update in 2023, BMW moved all of the climate controls into the touchscreen instead of having proper buttons. That feels like a downgrade to me.
3. Dirty reversing camera

A £75,000 car really should have a washer for the rear-view camera. It’s always exposed and gets covered in road grime, and the only way to restore your visibility is to get out and wipe it with your finger. How very undignified.
Small gripes aside, the BMW X5 is still one of the best premium SUVs you can buy. Just make sure to check out the savings available through Carwow before you fork out too much cash.
