The Chery Tiggo 8 is spacious, well-made and generously equipped, and it’s insanely cheap to lease. No wonder it’s our Car Of The Year for 2026.

If you’re after a seven-seat family SUV, the Chery Tiggo 8 should be right at the top of your shopping list. Chery might not be a familiar brand name in the UK right now having only launched a few months ago, but this is a seriously impressive offering which should have cars like the Skoda Kodiaq and Kia Sorento quaking in their tyres.

Let’s take a look at what makes this car so good.

Why should you consider a Chery Tiggo 8?

For a new model from an unknown brand to scoop the Carwow Car Of The Year award, it has to be pretty impressive.

First impressions matter, and the Tiggo 8 looks like a premium product from the outside. It may not be as striking as a Peugeot 5008, but it has an understated elegance which makes it look much more expensive than it is.

Then you open the door to be greeted by a properly posh interior. There’s loads of plush leatherette and soft-touch materials in here, and everything feels really well put together. It very nearly matches a Volkswagen Tayron in terms of interior quality.

You also get loads of equipment as standard. All cars get adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, LED headlights and wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

There’s acres of space on offer for passengers; even the third row is roomy enough for longer trips. This is a really practical, posh and well-equipped car for not much cash.

Chery Tiggo 8 lease prices – the biggest reason to buy one

The Tiggo 8 is cheap to buy, with prices starting from just £28,545, but the leasing offers available through Carwow are insane.

You can get a top-spec Tiggo 8 Summit Plug-in hybrid for just £277 per month right now*. That’s over the course of 48 months with an upfront payment of £3,669, and with a generous mileage limit of 8,000 per year.

The Summit model gets premium features like heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 12-speaker Sony sound system and a head-up display.

For context, a Vauxhall Astra will cost you £265 per month over four years with a £3,478 deposit and a mileage limit of 8,000 per year. So with the Chery you’re paying just £12 per month more for a car which is much bigger, more premium-feeling and packed with more toys. It’s starting to look like a no-brainer, isn’t it?

Chery Tiggo 8 alternatives

As good as it is, the Chery Tiggo 8 won’t be for everyone. Here are three alternatives to consider which each do something better than the Tiggo 8.

Skoda Kodiaq – better to drive

The Chery’s biggest drawback is the way it drives, because the suspension feels a bit unsettled over bumps and the steering is really vague. The Kodiaq is more comfortable and refined, and it feels more planted on the road.

Peugeot 5008 – more exciting to look at

The Tiggo 8 looks posh, but if you want to turn heads then the Peugeot 5008 is a better bet. It looks really cool from the outside, and the interior is also more interesting than the Chery’s.

Kia Sorento – more boot space

The Tiggo 8 has plenty of passenger space, but if you need to carry lots of luggage then you’ll want to check out the Kia Sorento. It has 113 litres more space than the Chery in five seat mode, and with all seven seats in place it’s still 62 litres up.
