About Chery

Chery Automobile is a Chinese car manufacturer, based in Wuhu, China, which launched its first car in 1999. Chery was founded in 1997 and started importing cars to the UK in 2025.

Chery also owns Jaecoo and Omoda, two other car brands which only launched in the UK in 2024 and 2025 respectively, but also sells its own model range.

Chery sells lots of different cars in its home market, and its first two UK models are the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 - albeit tweaked for the UK. Chery is the largest exporter of cars in China.

Both UK models are SUVs, with the Tiggo 7 being a five-seater and the Tiggo 8 being the range-topping seven-seater option. Both will be sold with petrol and plug-in hybrid engine options, and offer similar levels of standard kit at a lower price than their European alternatives.

If the Jaecoo and Omoda brands are anything to go by, they won’t offer particularly impressive drive comfort or refinement on the road, but they’ll excel in value for money.

What our car expert says

“Chinese manufacturers seem to be developing more desirable and much-improved models at a rapid rate, and while the Chery sub-brands on sale aren’t all that impressive to drive, they’re perfectly acceptable as well-equipped commuter cars. Chery is clearly serious about entering the UK market, with a dealer network that’s exploding in the number of stores on our shores.”
