About Aion

Aion is owned by GAC Group, one of China’s biggest car manufacturers. While GAC is not yet a household name in Britain, it is a major global player and has been expanding rapidly outside China in recent years.

The brand’s UK operation is being handled by Aion Auto UK, a joint venture between GAC and Jameel Motors. Former Volvo UK boss Jon Wakefield has been appointed managing director, underlining that this is being treated as a serious long-term launch rather than a tentative trial.

Aion’s first UK models are set to be the Aion V electric SUV and the Aion UT electric hatchback. The V is expected to be the first to arrive and will sit in the hugely important mid-size family EV class, while the smaller UT is intended to broaden the line-up with a more affordable hatchback option.

UK-spec details are still being finalised, but Aion has already said it will back its cars with an eight-year warranty that includes servicing, roadside assistance and MOTs. The company has also put customer support infrastructure in place, including UK warehousing and a wider European parts hub, which should help reassure buyers concerned about aftersales support from a brand that’s new to Britain.

What our car expert says

“Aion looks as though it’s taking a sensible rather than flashy route into the UK. The V and UT both target the biggest parts of the EV market, and on paper the brand seems to understand that things such as warranty cover, parts back-up and value matter just as much as battery range”

Aion FAQs

The Aion V SUV will cost from £36,450. The smaller Aion UT hatchback should sit below that.

Aion is owned by GAC Group, one of China’s largest car manufacturers. In the UK, the brand is being introduced through Aion Auto UK, a joint venture between GAC and Jameel Motors.

Aion has not published any UK battery replacement pricing yet. In practice, full EV battery replacement costs can run into many thousands of pounds, but complete pack failure is unusual. More relevant for buyers is that Aion has already confirmed an eight-year warranty for UK cars, which should cover battery issues within its terms.
