About SEAT

SEAT can trace its history back to 1950. It was founded as a joint venture between the Spanish government, Spanish private banks, and Fiat.

The car maker continued as an independent company until 1986, when it was bought by the Volkswagen Group. It remains part of the Group today.

Under VW’s wing, SEAT has been positioned as a sporty, youthful brand. Until quite recently, SEAT’s range-topping, high-performance models were badged Cupra, a name which has now been spun off from SEAT to become its own company. Much of the Cupra range is still closely related to a SEAT equivalent.

Today, SEAT’s range includes hatchbacks, estate cars, and SUVs. Unusually, SEAT is without a fully electric four-wheeled model for now, although it does sell an electric moped. The electric SEAT Mii city car is no longer on sale.

What our car expert says

“SEAT is like an older sibling whose achievements have been outdone by their little brother – in this case, Cupra. But while Cupra attracts all the attention, SEAT still makes some very good cars. The seven-seat Tarraco SUV is the pick of an impressive range.”
