Finding a car that makes family life easier can make all the difference, from smoother school runs to more comfortable long-distance journeys. The best child-friendly cars offer spacious interiors, easy access for fitting car seats, generous boot space for pushchairs and luggage, and practical features that help take the stress out of travelling with children.

But which cars are the most child-friendly? Based on feedback from more than 100,000 UK motorists, the latest Driver Power survey reveals the top 10 cars owners rate as the best for families, highlighting the models that make life with kids easier.

1. MG HS

Claiming the top spot is the MG HS. This practical family SUV offers a spacious cabin, easy access for child seats, and a large 507-litre boot, making it well suited for pushchairs and family essentials. However, its size can make parking in tight spaces more challenging, and some alternatives offer a more premium interior feel and a more refined driving experience.

That said, Driver Power survey respondents praised it for its practicality and on-road performance. One owner described it as “stylish, responsive, handles the road well, with lots of driving aids and tech,” while another highlighted its “fuel efficiency and comfort,” making it a strong choice for longer family journeys.

2. Hyundai Tucson

In second place was the Hyundai Tucson, which we think ticks all the family car boxes. It offers a spacious cabin, a large boot of up to 620 litres, easy rear access and plenty of room for child seats, making it practical for everyday family life. Downsides include slightly awkward ISOFIX access, limited space for three child seats across the rear bench, and firm suspension over uneven roads.

Owners still praised its family-friendly qualities though, with one respondent describing it as “very safe to drive and very economical”. Another highlighted its “good fuel economy” and said it was “spacious as well as smooth and pleasant to drive”.

3. Vauxhall Grandland

Rounding off the podium is the Vauxhall Grandland. This family-friendly SUV offers a spacious cabin, comfortable ride and a practical 550-litre boot for everyday essentials. While it may not be the most flexible choice for three child seats, it gives a good balance of comfort and practicality for most families.

Driver Power respondents agreed that it was a strong choice for families. One owner praised its “equipment and being large enough for the family,” while another highlighted its “roominess, ease of driving, comfortable seats, and boot space”.

4. Peugeot 3008

The Peugeot 3008 may have missed out on a podium spot, but owners still praised its child-friendly practicality. With a spacious boot of up to 588 litres, a comfortable interior and easy access for children, it’s a strong family SUV. Rear-seat space and child-seat fitting may not be quite as effortless as some larger alternatives, but it remains a stylish and practical choice for families with younger children.

Owners shared this view, with one saying it offers “plenty of room and is incredibly reliable”. Another described it as “very comfortable” and “a very safe car to drive”, highlighting the reassurance it provides for everyday family journeys.

5. Peugeot 5008

From one Peugeot to another, the seven-seater 5008 takes fifth place. This practical SUV delivers on family-friendly features, with plenty of space for children, child seats and everyday essentials. Its flexible seven-seat layout, roomy interior and large boot make family trips easier, while its comfortable drive helps keep longer journeys relaxed. The third row is best suited to children rather than adults, but overall the 5008 is a versatile and practical family choice.

One respondent said that having seven seats is “always a bonus with friends and for family trips”. Another described it as a “great car that’s comfortable to drive and very economical”, adding that “the space is ideal for moving around with two kids and our shopping”.

6. Vauxhall Frontera

Next up is the Vauxhall Frontera. It also offers a spacious cabin, easy access to the rear seats and a practical boot that makes everyday family life simpler. There’s room for child seats, pushchairs and all the essentials. The option of seven seats also adds flexibility for growing families. While the interior is more practical than premium and the extra seats are best suited to children, it offers good value and plenty of useful space.

Owners particularly valued its practicality, with one respondent praising its “size, big boot and interior”, while another said it “has a good amount of room in the cabin”. Others highlighted that it’s “cheap to run”, which is an important benefit for growing families, especially as household costs continue to rise.

7. Volkswagen Tiguan

The Volkswagen Tiguan is a practical family SUV with plenty of space for children, car seats and everyday essentials. Its roomy rear seats, easy-access Isofix points and large boot make family life simpler, while its comfortable seats help keep longer journeys relaxed. It’s not the cheapest option in its class, but it offers a good balance of comfort, quality and practicality for families.

Owners also praised the Tiguan’s “comfort, economy, and being enjoyable to drive”, while one parent highlighted that the “space is good for my three kids”. These comments show the Tiguan’s appeal as a comfortable and practical choice for family life.

8. Ford Kuga

Also making the top 10 is the Ford Kuga. We think this is a child-friendly SUV thanks to its roomy interior, flexible sliding rear seats and easy access for fitting child seats. Its practical boot and comfortable cabin make it well suited to everyday family life, although some alternatives offer more overall space.

Owners also praised its practicality, with one describing the space as “perfect” and another saying it’s “big and spacious”. A third owner highlighted its fuel efficiency, making the Kuga a sensible choice for family trips.

9. Peugeot 2008

This is the third and final Peugeot in this list. While the 2008 is slightly smaller than the 3008 and 5008, we still think it’s a child-friendly choice, with easy access, a practical boot and Isofix points for fitting child seats securely. Its raised driving position makes getting kids in and out easier, while the rear space works well for everyday family use. Just be aware that taller passengers may find legroom a little limited as children grow.

One Driver Power respondent summed up the 2008’s family appeal: “As a young family, it suits us perfectly. The space is practical, and the Isofix points make installing a child seat quick and secure. Overall, it’s a car that feels stylish, family-friendly, and enjoyable to drive without stretching the budget.”

10. BMW 3 Series

Last up, we have the BMW 3 Series. It may not be the first car that springs to mind as a family-friendly choice, but owners think otherwise. With comfortable rear seats, easy-to-use Isofix points and a useful boot for everyday essentials, it’s a practical option for families who want something a little more premium. While it may not offer the space of a larger SUV, it proves that a stylish, enjoyable car can still work well for family life.

One owner praised its “size, comfort and its safety features”, while another loved that it “drives really well, looks great, and is economical”. It’s a good reminder that practicality and child-friendly features don’t have to come at the expense of style and luxury.
