A good sound system is essential for some. Being immersed in your favourite music on a long drive helps the miles fly by, and there are plenty of car manufacturers who will sell you a posh stereo from brands like Bose, B&O or Sony.
The Polestar 3 comes with a Bowers and Wilkins system as standard, and after living with one for six months it was one of our favourite features. Now, Polestar has teamed up with Abbey Road, the iconic music studio used by The Beatles, to add some cool new features.
We went to Abbey Road to speak with Mirek Stiles, head of audio products at Abbey Road, to get a demonstration of the new system and learn more about it.

New Polestar 3 Abbey Road mode: how does it work?
All versions of the Polestar 3 now have Abbey Road mode for the sound system thanks to an over-the-air update, and it offers a wide range of adjustment to the sound profile.
There are two sections. At the top, you can choose between four presets – Intimate, Open, Energised and Expansive. These are linked to the other section, called Producer mode, which you can use to tune the sound as you like it.

Think of it like you’re in the Abbey Road recording studio. At the bottom are you and the control rooms, and the top is the live room where the artists are playing. You slide your finger up and down to make it sound more like one or the other.
You can also slide left and right to choose a different time period. All the way to the left replicates sounds made by some of the classic equipment from the 1960s, which is what The Beatles would’ve used to record their classic album, while the right-hand side gives you a more modern, deep tone.
What does all this mean?
If you’re not an audio nerd, you’ll probably use one of the ready-made presets to set up the sound system as you want it. For proper geeks though, Producer Mode allows you fine-tune the setup like no other car.
Mirek Stiles, head of audio products at Abbey Road, said: “To my ears it allows you to go beyond the confines of the cabin and really open up the sound stage.
“It’s all based on Abbey Road’s intellectual property sound sculpting tools, the sounds of our rooms and the expertise of our sound engineers.”
In short, the system has been designed to make you feel like you are in Abbey Road listening to your favourite artists record their tracks, not sitting in a traffic jam on the M25. It’s a niche feature, and one which many will see as a gimmick, but it’s also a really cool bit of attention to detail which I appreciate.
