Car changing is a big deal
The Renault Clio is well-equipped, practical, nicely built, economical and great value for money, especially when you buy one through Carwow. News Editor Jamie Edkins explains why he likes this car so much.
I’m a big fan of small cars. They’re cheap to buy, cheap to run and easy to drive, and some are also comfortable enough to put larger cars to shame.
The Renault Clio is the perfect example, because it’s one of the best small hatchbacks you can buy right now. Here’s why I think you should take a look at the Clio.
Why is the Renault Clio so good?
Let’s start with the looks. I reckon the Clio is a fantastic-looking car, especially if you go for the Esprit Alpine model with its larger wheels and sporty bodykit. I even think it looks better than the all-new Clio which is coming in a year’s time, so now could be the time to snap up the current car.

Then there’s the interior, which not only looks smart but is also nicely built. You get soft-touch materials on the dashboard, nicely-damped switchgear and solid build quality throughout.

There are two engine options to choose from, and both offer fuel-sipping economy. My pick would be the 1.6-litre hybrid though, because it’ll easily return over 60mpg in the real world and it’s smooth to drive around town.
Renault Clio deals: save up to £4,800 through Carwow*
There are plenty of deals on the Renault Clio in the Carwow Black Friday sale to make it even more appealing.
Prices for the Clio usually start at just under £19,000, but you can pick one up through Carwow for around £15,400 through Carwow. The biggest savings can be found on the Esprit Alpine hybrid, with discounts of up to £4,798 available during our Black Friday sale.
That brings the price of this model down to just £20,300, and you get a lot of standard equipment. This version gets an excellent Google-based infotainment system, adaptive cruise control, heated sports seats and keyless entry.
Things to consider before buying a Renault Clio
No car is perfect, and there are a couple of negative points to consider before buying a Clio.
The first is the rear seats, because they’re not as spacious as those in the Skoda Fabia. However, the Clio does have a massive boot to make up for this.
It’s also not quite as comfortable over bumps as a Volkswagen Polo, especially around town where the Clio can feel fidgety over broken surfaces. It settles down nicely at higher speeds though; it’s a great motorway cruiser.
Renault Clio alternatives
Small niggles aside, the Renault Clio is a fantastic small car – and it’s a bit of a bargain when you buy through Carwow.
Not convinced? Here are three alternatives to consider.
Skoda Fabia

The Fabia is more spacious than the Clio and it’s really comfy to drive, but it’s not as exciting to look at. Save nearly £4,000 when you buy through Carwow*.
Renault 5

Fancy a Clio-sized hatchback but want something electric? The Renault 5 fits the bill and looks fantastic. Buy yours through Carwow to save almost £2,600*
Peugeot 208

One of the only small cars which can match the Clio for style, but the rear seats are pretty cramped. You can save almost £7,000 when you buy one through Carwow*.
