The Skoda Elroq is practical, comfortable, affordable and well-equipped, making it Mat Watson’s number one choice if you’re after an electric SUV.

Not every new car has to set the world alight. The Skoda Elroq won’t get your pulse racing through the bends, and it won’t turn heads on the high street, but it’s a fantastic choice for families because it’s such a good all-rounder.

Here are three reasons why I think you should buy a Skoda Elroq, as well as three annoying things to consider.

Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

Three good things about the Skoda Elroq

1. It’s really practical

In many ways, the Skoda Elroq makes the larger Enyaq look a bit pointless. It has the same amount of rear legroom, which is to say acres, and there’s loads of interior storage as well. The glovebox is massive, as are the doorbins.

The 470-litre boot may lag behind the Peugeot E-3008, but it’s a more useful, square shape than that car’s and there’s a big space under the floor for your charging cables.

2. It’s comfortable to drive

The Elroq is relaxing to drive in any setting. Around town, the supple suspension soaks up potholes and speed bumps, and visibility is decent as well. It’s also quiet and refined on the motorway, and on a twisty road it feels safe and secure. A Cupra Tavascan is more fun, but for stress-free motoring the Elroq is hard to beat.

3. The interior looks smart

I quite like the Skoda Elroq’s cabin, especially if you go for the white leatherette option on the dashboard. It looks clean and modern, while also being practical and easy to use thanks to the physical shortcut buttons under the infotainment screen. It feels solid, so it’ll stand up to the worst your kids can throw at it.

Skoda Elroq prices and deals

The other good thing about the Skoda Elroq is the price, because it’s great value for money. It starts from just £33,970, making it cheaper than the Renault Scenic and the much smaller Cupra Born.

And you can save even more money when you buy through Carwow. You’ll get an average of £4,250 off an Elroq at the time of writing, but the biggest savings can be found on the Edition model with the Maxx package.

This car usually starts from £46,170, but through Carwow you can save £7,300. It comes with posh features like a head-up display, automatic parking assist, rear sunblinds and a premium sound system.

Three annoying things about the Skoda Elroq

The Elroq is a great car, but it’s not perfect. Here are three annoying things to consider before you part with any cash.

1. It’s pretty dull

There’s no getting away from the fact that this isn’t an exciting car. That may not matter if you’re just after something cheap and practical, but if you want to turn heads then a Peugeot E-3008 is a much better choice.

2. Cheap-feeling plastics

The interior looks smart and it’s solid, but some of the materials do feel a bit cheap. The centre console is covered in hard, scratchy plastic, and sitting in the back feels like being in the cheap seats because the door cards aren’t soft-touch.

3. Rubbish cupholders

Skoda usually nails practicality, and it does in the Elroq with one exception. The front cupholders are really small, and they’re a slightly awkward shape. Fitting a 330ml can is easy, but even a medium coffee cup is a squeeze.

But I’m nitpicking a bit here, because the Elroq is one of the best family EVs around. If you’re in the market for an electric SUV, you can buy this one with confidence.
