Skoda makes some of the most practical family cars out there, and the Kodiaq is its biggest SUV. Here’s why you should consider making this your next family wagon.

When I reviewed the new Skoda Kodiaq, I was really impressed. It’s a car which just gets everything right, and it’s packed with clever features to make your day-to-day life that bit easier.

Here are three reasons to think about buying a new Skoda Kodiaq, as well as three annoying things which might put you off.

Three things I like about the Skoda Kodiaq

1. It’s hugely practical

As you’d expect from a Skoda, the Kodiaq is a really roomy car for families. Space in the second row is generous, the boot is massive and there are loads of cubby holes for your bits and bobs. There are also plenty of clever features, such as the hidden ice scraper and the umbrellas in the doors.

2. It’s relaxing to drive

We used a Kodiaq as a camera car on an 800-mile-round trip, and it was the perfect car for the job. It was hugely comfortable on the motorway, secure on twisty roads and easy to drive in the tight Scottish villages we ended up in. This is a great long-distance cruiser.

3. There are loads of engine options

There may not be an electric version, but the Kodiaq comes with a great variety of engines. There are basic petrol versions, plug-in hybrids with up to 75 miles of electric range, and you can even get a sporty vRS model with 265hp. This is also one of the few SUVs still available with a diesel engine, which makes it the perfect tow car.

Skoda Kodiaq prices and deals

The Skoda Kodiaq starts from just under £40,000, which is about the same as a Peugeot 5008 and a bit cheaper than a Volkswagen Tayron.

But what really matters is the price you pay at a dealer, and right now through Carwow you can save an average of £4,200 on a new Skoda Kodiaq. That means you can get one for less than £35,000, which is a bit of a steal if you ask me.

All cars come with a decent amount of standard equipment including heated seats, blind spot monitoring, a 13.0-inch infotainment system and cruise control. I’d pay a bit extra for the mid-spec SE L model, because it gets matrix LED headlights and keyless entry.

Three annoying things about the Skoda Kodiaq

1. Space in the third row isn’t great

Seven-seat versions of the Skoda Kodiaq can accommodate adults in the third row, but it’s a tight squeeze. You wouldn’t want to travel any significant distance back there, and the Hyundai Santa Fe is more spacious in the rearmost seats.

2. You can’t get a seven-seat PHEV

Company car drivers looking for low Benefit in Kind rates and a seven seater will have to look elsewhere, because the plug-in hybrid Kodiaq is a five-seater only. If you want a PHEV with room for seven, check out the Chery Tiggo 8.

3. It’s a bit bland

The Sportline version of the Kodiaq lifts the look with some aggressive-looking details and bigger wheels, but it’s still not an SUV which stands out. The Peugeot 5008 is the better choice if you’re looking to turn heads.

Small gripes aside, I still think the Skoda Kodiaq is a great all-round family car. If you’re after something practical, comfortable and well-equipped, make sure to check out deals on this car.
