This is the new Vauxhall Mokka GSE, and it’s the fastest electric car the brand has ever made – Devan Kumar reports.

The new Vauxhall Mokka GSE injects this usually hum-drum electric car with some much needed excitement thanks to a more powerful motor and some chassis upgrades. The price is still unknown, however we expect it to be slightly more expensive than the standard car.

New Vauxhall Mokka GSE motors and performance

The Vauxhall Mokka GSE shares most of its mechanical bits with other performance cars from Stellantis, including the Abarth 600e, the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce and the forthcoming Peugeot E-208 GTI.

It has a powerful 280hp motor, up from 136hp in the standard car. As a result it can go from 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds, 3.1 seconds quicker than a normal Mokka but around 0.2 of a second slower than the mechanically-similar Peugeot E-208 GTI.

The top speed is 124 mph, which will make it the fastest all-electric Vauxhall. What’s more impressive is the chassis upgrades, because this small electric car has a mechanical limited-slip differential. That’s technology usually reserved for high-end sports cars, and it helps the car feel more agile as you chuck it into a bend.

You get the same 54kWh battery as the standard Mokka, however Vauxhall hasn’t given a range figure for this car yet. Given it shares many parts with the Abarth 600e, you can expect it to do around 200 miles on a charge.

New Vauxhall Mokka GSE design

The Mokka GSE looks noticeably more beefy than the standard car, thanks in part to the 20-inch alloy wheels. There’s also a more aggressive-looking bodykit and various green accents to set things off.

On the inside, there is a 10 inch digital driver’s display, as well as performance readouts for your G force and acceleration – not something you usually see in a Vauxhall. There are also some body-hugging sports seats to make sure you don’t roll around while you exploit that clever differential.

New Vauxhall Mokka GSE price and specs

At the time of writing, the cost of the Mokka GSE hasn’t been announced. You can expect it to be more than the standard Vauxhall Mokka, at £31,000, but it may cost less than £40,000 pounds in order to avoid the UK’s Luxury Car tax threshold.

This would make it slightly cheaper than the similar Alfa Romero Junior Veloce which costs £42,305, and also shares parts with the GSE.
