Best cars with three ISOFIX points (2024)

June 22, 2021 by

Safety is paramount when you’re buying a new car, and especially so if you’re a driver who’s also a parent of young children. It’s imperative, then, that you consider a car that has the child seat anchoring points you need to ensure your kids are as well protected as possible.

While you can use seat belts and tethers to fasten child seats in place on a car’s seats, the most secure child seats of all are the ones with easy-to-use ISOFIX mounts. These are used to latch the child seat firmly onto the car’s seat, which in turn means your little one is much better protected should you be involved in a car accident.

Isofix points are also mandatory on all new cars, with the number of ISOFIX seats fitted varying from car to car. If you’re after a car that can have multiple child seats installed at any one time, we’ve rounded up below some of the best cars on sale now that have at least three passenger seats with ISOFIX mounting points.

Mercedes GLB

Thanks to its roomy interior and seven-seater capacity, the Mercedes GLB is a good choice if you’re after a spacious SUV to accommodate the needs of your growing family. As a result, it perhaps isn’t a surprise to see the GLB is really good when it comes to ISOFIX mounting points.

In total, the Mercedes has no less than four seats with ISOFIX mounting points. Each of the outer chairs in the middle row has them, and the GLB has ISOFIX points on the two seats in the third row, too. Of course, getting to the seats right at the back is a bit tricky if you need to use all four ISOFIX points at the same time, though you can at least fold the middle row’s centre seat down to improve access a little bit.

Audi Q5

It may have two fewer seats than the previously mentioned Mercedes GLB, but that doesn’t stop the Audi Q5 from having plenty of ISOFIX child seat mounting points. Of the trio of points, two of them can be found on the outer chairs in the back row – and, thanks to the car’s roomy cabin and large door openings, you should be able to squeeze them in without much hassle.

Because the Audi Q5 only has one row of rear seats, you can’t fit another child seat using the ISOFIX mounting ISOFIX points on the front passenger seat.

DS 7

If you want to stand out from the crowd the DS 7 is worthy of a look. It’s not a hugely well-known brand, so the badge and chic styling make it a genuinely head-turning SUV. But it’s not form over function, because you get three ISOFIX points, making it practical for a big family.

On top of that, it has a massive boot, so there’s somewhere to put all the things that come with having three young children. Pair the light steering and comfortable drive with the plug-in hybrid model and you have an excellent SUV for city driving.

Peugeot 3008

As part of the Peugeot 3008 recent mid-life refresh, the French family SUV was given a tweaked exterior design, some more advanced interior tech and a nip-and-tuck update to the look of the cabin. One stone that Peugeot did leave unturned was the 3008’s ISOFIX child seat capacity – but that’s not a bad thing, as the car can still accommodate quite a few with ease.

In total, there are three ISOFIX mounting points on the Peugeot 3008 – one on the car’s front passenger seat, and another one each on the two outer rear seats. Handily, all of the doors on the Peugeot 3008 open nice and wide as well, so even attaching larger rear-facing child seats in the car shouldn’t be an issue.

Volkswagen ID4

Another family SUV that’s worth having on your radar if you have three young children in tow is the Volkswagen ID4. Like the previously mentioned Peugeot 3008, this electric family SUV has three seats with built-in ISOFIX anchoring points, and the layout is the same as the Peugeot’s, too. You can fit one ISOFIX seat on the front passenger seat, and one each on the car’s outer rear seats.

It’s handy too that the ID4 has a pretty roomy cabin, which is partly a result of the fairly long wheelbase (the distance between the front and rear wheels) by five-seater family SUV standards. Coupled with the large doors, and that means it shouldn’t be a squeeze getting bigger and bulkier child seats in the back.

Land Rover Discovery

It may have sleeker styling than older versions of the Discover, but Land Rover’s latest large seven-seater SUV is still very impressive when it comes to interior space. There’s enough room for even adults to not feel too hemmed in if they’re relegated to the third row of seats – and, thanks to the plush cabin, it’s a pleasant place to spend long journeys in wherever you’re seated.

It helps too that there are loads of ISOFIX points on the Land Rover Discovery. There are child seat anchoring points on the front passenger seat, the two outer seats in the middle row and both seats in the back row, so even drivers with lots of children have plenty of seating capacity at their disposal in the Discovery.

Kia Sorento

If seven-seater SUVs like the Land Rover Discovery are a bit beyond your budget, then it’s definitely worth having a look at the Kia Sorento. While it’s come a long way from the cheap and cheerful roots of Kias of old, the latest Sorento is a bit more affordable to buy than other high-end alternatives and picks up where its predecessor left off by having a roomy and well-built interior.

Admittedly, the Kia Sorento does lose out to the Land Rover when it comes to ISOFIX anchor points. That said, four of Kia’s seats (the two third-row seats and the two outer chairs in the middle row) do come with ISOFIX mounts, so you still have a good number at your disposal.

Audi Q7

When it comes to child seat capacity, few cars are able to match the Audi Q7. This huge upmarket SUV has ISOFIX mounting points on all of its passenger seats – meaning you can have as many as six ISOFIX child seats secured in the Q7 at any one time.

Of course, many drivers likely won’t need to make use of all of that ISOFIX capacity, though it at least means you have lots of options. Because the Audi Q7 also has big door openings and a cavernous interior, there’s lots of space to work with when you’re fitting the child seat, regardless of the passenger seat you’re attaching it to.

SEAT Tarraco

Because the Seat Tarraco is a roomy car with lots of passenger space and a respectable-sized boot with all seven seats in place, it makes a good choice if you’re shopping around for a new family car. It’s especially worth considering if you need lots of child seat capacity, as the SEAT Tarraco comes with a good amount of ISOFIX anchoring points.

Regardless of the SEAT Tarraco you go for, it will come out of the box with three seats with ISOFIX mounting points: the front passenger seat and the two outer middle row seats. It’s handy, too, that the big door openings do mean fitting larger rear-facing seats shouldn’t be an issue. Just bear in mind that, unlike some seven-seater SUVs, there aren’t any ISOFIX points to speak of on the Tarraco’s two third-row seats.

Skoda Enyaq

Under the skin, the Skoda Enyaq is very closely related to the VW ID4 that we featured earlier. As a result, it’s not too surprising that this all-electric SUV is also a top choice if you’re after a good family car with lots of ISOFIX mounting points.

Like the VW, the Skoda Enyaq has three seats with built-in ISOFIX anchors: the front passenger seat and the two outer rear row seats. Thanks to the car’s large door openings, roomy cabin and boxy dimensions, it’s also pretty straightforward to fit larger child seats in the Skoda Enyaq.
