Don’t want a Jaecoo 7? Check out these five great alternatives instead
June 12, 2026 by Jamie Edkins
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year or so, you’ll have noticed Jaecoo 7s popping up all over UK roads. It’s one of the best-selling new cars in the UK right now, which considering it’s a brand which has been around for less than two years is really good going.
We can see why it’s so popular. The Jaecoo 7 looks posh, feels premium inside, comes packed with kit and undercuts most alternatives on price. It’s not the best to drive, with wobbly suspension and vague steering, but for under £30,000 it’s still a bit of a bargain.
But what if the Jaecoo just doesn’t do it for you? Maybe you want something which is nicer to drive, or perhaps you want a car from a more well-known brand? Well here are five alternatives to consider.
Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.
- Citroen C5 Aircross
- Omoda 7
- Kia Sportage
- Volkswagen Tiguan
- Renault Austral
1. Citroen C5 Aircross
If you’re after the most comfortable SUV for around £30,000, you can’t go wrong with the Citroen C5 Aircross. It glides over bumps, potholes and broken surfaces, and it’s also super-relaxing on the motorway, and it took home the Family Values trophy in the Carwow Car of the Year Awards 2026.
The infotainment system is a bit fiddly to use, and the interior doesn’t feel as posh as the Jaecoo’s in places, but it does look cool and it comes with plenty of standard kit. You can save an average of almost £3,000 on a C5 Aircross though Carwow at the time of writing, and lease prices start from around £240 per month.
2. Omoda 7

The Omoda 7 really deserves to be as popular as the Jaecoo 7, if not more so. Under the skin, it uses the same excellent plug-in hybrid engine as the Jaecoo. It’s smooth, punchy and refined, but the Omoda is better to drive.
It’s not as vague or floaty through the corners, and it’s more comfortable over bumps as well. The infotainment system isn’t as easy to use, and some of the interior materials are questionable, but the Omoda 7 is cheaper than the equivalent Jaecoo 7, and you can save an average of almost £2,000 through Carwow.
3. Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage is the car you choose if you want a sensible, practical SUV which is easy to live with. It feels solid inside, has a massive boot and there’s plenty of space in the back seats too.
You also get loads of standard kit, but the infotainment system is a bit tricky to use and the touch-sensitive climate controls are fiddly. At least you get a seven-year warranty, which may be the same term as the Jaecoo 7’s but it covers more components. At the time of writing, you can save just over £3,000 on a new Sportage through Carwow.
4. Volkswagen Tiguan

If you’re after a comfortable, posh SUV with a premium badge on the nose, the Volkswagen Tiguan is an excellent choice. It’s also practical and comes with great tech, but it’s almost £10,000 more expensive than the Jaecoo.
That’s unless you lease one. You can have a Tiguan for around £280 per month through Carwow at the time of writing, which is only £20 or so more than a Jaecoo 7 will cost you. If you like your SUV to drive well, it’s worth paying the extra.
5. Renault Austral

The Renault Austral sometimes gets overlooked in favour of alternatives from Kia, Nissan and Jaecoo, but it’s a very good SUV which is well worth considering. The interior is lovely, and it has an excellent Google-based infotainment system with apps like Spotify built in.
It may be a bit firm over bumps, and the hybrid engine isn’t as smooth as the Jaecoo’s, but the Austral looks smart and there are some great deals available through Carwow at the time of writing. You can save an average of £4,700, bringing the starting price in line with the Jaecoo 7.
