7 of the best Omoda 9 alternatives in 2026

October 16, 2026 by

The Omoda 9 offers extraordinary value for money, but it won’t be to everyone’s taste. Here are seven alternatives to this Chinese plug-in hybrid SUV.

You’ll be hard pushed to find a car as fast, posh or well-equipped for the money as the Omoda 9. For £45,000 you’re getting a plug-in hybrid with over 90 miles of electric range, 449hp and an interior which looks and feels like something costing a whole lot more.

That said, the Omoda 9 won’t appeal to everyone thanks to its vague handling, sub-par driving aids and poor rear visibility. Here are seven alternatives which you could consider for similar money.

The best Omoda 9 alternatives in 2026 are:

  1. Jaecoo 8
  2. Cupra Terramar
  3. Chery Tiggo 9
  4. Peugeot 3008
  5. Audi Q3
  6. Lexus NX
  7. Used Volvo XC90

1. Jaecoo 8

The most logical alternative to the Omoda 9 is the Jaecoo 8, because they share a lot of parts under the skin but the Jaecoo is wrapped up in a more practical, seven-seater body. It’s also more comfortable over bumps than the Omoda, although the interior doesn’t feel quite as well-made.

That said, you still get 428hp and over 80 miles of electric range, all for the same price as the Omoda 9. Just don’t bother paying extra for the individual captain’s chairs in the back, because they render the third row pretty much useless.

2. Cupra Terramar

If you fancy something a bit more sporty-looking than the Omoda 9, you could check out the Cupra Terramar. It’s good fun to drive, offers over 70 miles of electric range in the plug-in hybrid model and has a nice interior with body-hugging sports seats. It doesn’t feel quite as posh as the Omoda though.

The boot isn’t as big either, with 490 litres of space in the PHEV compared to 660 litres in the Chinese alternative. But if you want something which is fun to drive and practical, this is a good option.

3. Chery Tiggo 9

The Chery Tiggo 9 is another Chinese seven-seater which uses the same engine and hybrid system as the Omoda 9, albeit with 428hp instead of 449hp. It’s slightly cheaper than the Omoda as well, and you still get loads of kit, but the interior doesn’t feel quite as upmarket.

It’s also just as floaty and wayward to drive as the Omoda 9, but the Tiggo 9 does look smart and the interior is seriously spacious.

4. Peugeot 3008

Peugeot knows how to make an exciting-looking family car – just look at the 3008. It’s bound to turn heads everywhere it goes, and the interior is just as lovely thanks to the posh materials and interesting design.

It may not be as spacious in the back as the Omoda, nor is the boot as big, but the 3008 is available with a range of efficient hybrid engines, as well as an all-electric version with more than 400 miles of range.

5. Audi Q3

This is the new Audi Q3, and it’s a comfortable, practical SUV which looks smart. You can get a plug-in hybrid version with 75 miles of electric range, but with 272hp on tap it can’t match the Omoda for outright pace.

Audi also used to be the king of posh interiors, but the Q3 feels pretty cheap and plasticy in places for a car costing over £40,000. If you’re after something which is good to drive though, it’s hard to beat.

6. Lexus NX

It’s not just the Germans who can make a premium SUV – the Japanese know a thing or two as well. The Lexus NX looks cool, is comfortable to drive and has some of the best seats in the business. You also know that it’ll last forever thanks to its Toyota underpinnings.

The hybrid engine may be a bit noisy, and there are some questionable materials inside, but we like the NX for its 10-year service-activated warranty. That’s great for peace of mind.

7. Used Volvo XC90

If you look at the used market, you can find some right bargains for £45,000 – just look at this Volvo XC90. It would’ve cost almost £80,000 when new, but this 2025 example with just 12,500 miles on the clock could be yours for £44,348.

It’s got the T8 plug-in hybrid system, meaning you get 455hp and 41 miles of electric range. It also has one of the nicest interiors in the business, and it’s super-comfortable to drive as well. It’s just a shame that the third row isn’t as roomy as other seven-seaters, such as the Land Rover Defender 130.
