Since the demise of the much-loved Fiesta back in 2022, the Ford Puma has been filling the gap left by that iconic hatchback. It was the best-selling car in the UK last year as well, and there’s a lot to like about this dinky SUV.

2. Renault Captur

If you’re after an SUV with a big boot and great tech, the Renault Captur is worth a look. It has a brilliant Google-based infotainment system which is really easy to use, and the hybrid model is great on fuel as well. The Captur isn’t the most comfortable over bumps though.

3. Volvo EX30

Maybe you’re ready to switch to an electric car? Well for the same price as a mid-range Puma you could buy the super-stylish Volvo EX30. It not only looks great, it’s also loaded with safety features and it’s comfortable to drive as well. However, the boot is no match for the Puma’s.

It may not be as fun to drive as a Puma, but it is more comfortable over bumps.

MG offers some of the best-value cars on the market, and the ZS is almost £4,000 cheaper than a Puma. You’re not short-changed in terms of kit either, because all cars get adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera and a 12.3-inch touchscreen as standard. It’s not as nice to drive as the Puma though.
