The 10 best Ford Puma alternatives in 2025

February 03, 2025 by

Since the demise of the much-loved Fiesta back in 2022, the Ford Puma has been filling the gap left by that iconic hatchback. It was the best-selling car in the UK last year as well, and there’s a lot to like about this dinky SUV.

It looks great, comes loaded with kit as standard and you get a massive boot, plus it’s good fun to drive. But not everything about the Puma is perfect, because the rear seats are cramped and the cabin feels cheap in places.

Ford Puma

If you’re in the market for a Ford Puma, there are plenty of worthy alternatives to consider. We’ve gathered 10 of the best.

The 10 best Ford Puma alternatives are:

  1. Toyota Yaris Cross
  2. Renault Captur
  3. Volvo EX30
  4. Dacia Duster
  5. Volkswagen T-Cross
  6. Peugeot 2008
  7. Skoda Kamiq
  8. MG ZS
  9. Kia Ceed
  10. Jaecoo 7

1. Toyota Yaris Cross

Toyota Yaris Cross

The Toyota Yaris Cross is one of the best small SUVs on the market, which is why it was named the best car for Urban Living in the Carwow Car Of The Year Awards 2025. The hybrid engine is super economical, it’s well equipped and comfortable to drive. It’s just a shame that the cabin is a bit dull.

2. Renault Captur

Renault Captur

If you’re after an SUV with a big boot and great tech, the Renault Captur is worth a look. It has a brilliant Google-based infotainment system which is really easy to use, and the hybrid model is great on fuel as well. The Captur isn’t the most comfortable over bumps though.

3. Volvo EX30

Volvo EX30

Maybe you’re ready to switch to an electric car? Well for the same price as a mid-range Puma you could buy the super-stylish Volvo EX30. It not only looks great, it’s also loaded with safety features and it’s comfortable to drive as well. However, the boot is no match for the Puma’s.

4. Dacia Duster

Dacia Duster

The Dacia Duster is quite a bit bigger than the Ford Puma, but it’s cheaper to buy. It’s such great value for money that it won the Smart Spender prize in our Car Of The Year Awards. You get more than enough tech, and there’s a four-wheel drive option if you fancy venturing off the beaten track.

5. Volkswagen T-Cross

Volkswagen T-Cross

Sometimes you just can’t beat a posh badge on your bonnet, and luckily the Volkswagen T-Cross offers a lot more than that. It’s comfortable, easy to drive and spacious inside, plus you get plenty of standard kit. It’s just a shame that the cabin isn’t quite as posh as you’d expect from a VW.

6. Peugeot 2008

Peugeot 2008

If looking good is of high priority to you, then the Peugeot 2008 is hard to ignore. It’s a fabulous-looking small SUV with an equally stylish interior, and it’s available with a range of economical petrol and hybrid engines. Just be sure to test drive one before you buy because the quirky driving position may not work for everyone.

7. Skoda Kamiq

Skoda Kamiq

The Skoda Kamiq is a sensible, practical and well-rounded small SUV which is packed with clever features. You get an ice scraper in the fuel door, a handy clip for your parking tickets in the windscreen and a Rolls Royce-esque umbrella in the door. It may not be as fun to drive as a Puma, but it is more comfortable over bumps.

8. MG ZS

MG ZS

MG offers some of the best-value cars on the market, and the ZS is almost £4,000 cheaper than a Puma. You’re not short-changed in terms of kit either, because all cars get adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera and a 12.3-inch touchscreen as standard. It’s not as nice to drive as the Puma though.

9. Kia Ceed

Kia Ceed

Let’s not forget about the traditional family hatchback. The Kia Ceed is practical, well-equipped and comfortable over long distances, and it comes with an excellent seven-year warranty. It’s pretty dull to look at though, and the interior’s quite dour as well.

10. Jaecoo 7

Jaecoo 7

You may have never heard of Jaecoo, but this new Chinese brand is expanding rapidly across the UK in 2025. Its first new car is the 7, a small SUV which is well-equipped, has a nice in
