Why is everyone buying the Jaecoo 5?

The new Jaecoo 5 has become the second model from this Chinese brand to appear in the top-10 UK sales charts, but what’s behind its success? News editor Jamie Edkins investigates.
The rise of Jaecoo is something I find quite fascinating. The brand has only been around for a couple of years, but it already sells two of the most popular cars in the UK. The Jaecoo 7 has been floating around the top three since the start of 2026, and now the Jaecoo 5 has snuck in at number four in August.
So why is this new car flying out of the showrooms? I reckon there are a few reasons.

1. It’s smaller and cheaper than the Jaecoo 7
The Jaecoo 7 is hugely popular right now, but not everyone wants something quite that big. The Jaecoo 5 is an ideal size for people living in tight cities, or if you don’t need quite as much interior room.
It also starts from £24,555, which is over £5,000 cheaper than the Jaecoo 7. You can save a further £1,700 through Carwow, and it has similar Range Rover-esque styling to its larger stablemate as well.
The interior is also just as plush as the Jaecoo 7’s, so it’s a really appealing option if you want something even more affordable.
2. There’s an electric version as well
There’s no electric version of the Jaecoo 7, but you can have the Jaecoo 5 as an EV in the form of the E5.
The Jaecoo E5 was the fourth most-popular electric car in the UK in August, and it looks pretty much the same as the petrol version. Prices start from just £27,505, dropping to just £22,100 when you buy through Carwow at the time of writing.
That’s crazy value for money, costing less than a mid-spec Vauxhall Corsa Electric for a larger, better-equipped SUV.
So if you like the Jaecoo 7’s styling, but want the lower running costs of an electric car, the Jaecoo E5 is the logical alternative.
3. There are loads of dealers
Jaecoo dealers are popping up all over the place, with 146 locations in the UK right now. That’s great for brand awareness, and it gives buyers a chance to see and drive the cars alongside the more mainstream alternatives.
When you go to a dealer group and see a Jaecoo 5 alongside a Ford Puma, the Jaecoo looks way posher and comes with more standard kit for a similar price. It’s no wonder buyers are tempted by it.
Combine this with a seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty, which was recently upgraded to cover a wider range of parts, and you have a small SUV which is great value for money. At a time when the cost of living is getting higher, that matters more than ever. That’s why I think the Jaecoo 5 is so popular.
