Car changing is a big deal
The Jaecoo 7 may have only been around for about a year, but second-hand prices are already looking tempting. Here’s why you should consider a used Jaecoo 7.
Jaecoo has gone from being an obscure Chinese brand no one has heard of, to selling the sixth most-popular car in the UK in October. That model is the Jaecoo 7, and it’s easy to see why it’s gone down so well with buyers.
For a smidge over £30,000 you get Range Rover-esque styling, a posh-feeling interior, and loads of standard equipment. It really is Champagne motoring for lemonade money, and it’s even more of a bargain if you browse the second-hand market.
Why should you consider the Jaecoo 7?
The Jaecoo 7 has a lot going for it, mostly its low price tag. It costs about the same as a high-spec Vauxhall Corsa, but instead of a slightly hum-drum small hatchback you’re getting a smart-looking and spacious SUV.

The interior looks great as well, and it feels pretty posh for the price. You get plenty of soft-touch plastics on the door tops and leatherette on the dashboard – bits of it even feel more solid than a Mercedes.

All cars come with heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, LED lights and a panoramic glass roof as standard, so you’re not short-changed in terms of kit. This is one great-value SUV.
Buy a used Jaecoo 7 and save over £6,000*
The Jaecoo is temptingly cheap when new, and on the used market you can save even more. We found a top-spec Luxury model with the plug-in hybrid engine for £29,000, which is £6,165 less than it would cost new. It’s only done 4,000 miles as well, so it’s barely run in.
The Luxury model gains features like heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a 14.8-inch infotainment system (up from 13.2 inches as standard) and a head-up display.

You’re also better off looking for the plug-in hybrid, because it’s much smoother and more economical than the rather noisy petrol model. It’ll also do up to 56 miles on electric power alone.
Things to consider before buying a Jaecoo 7
It may be a good car, but the Jaecoo 7 isn’t perfect. It’s not as good to drive as European alternatives like the Volkswagen Tiguan thanks to the stiff and jiggly suspension, nor is it as fun as something like a Ford Puma.
The rear seats in a Skoda Karoq are also more spacious, and the Skoda’s interior is easier to use thanks to the use of physical knobs – everything in the Jaecoo is controlled through fiddly touchscreen menus.
Used Jaecoo 7 alternatives
The Jaecoo 7 is a great used buy if you’re after something with a posh image and loads of kit, but if you’re not convinced then here are three alternatives to consider.
Volkswagen Tiguan

It’s much nicer to drive than the Jaecoo and has an even posher interior, but for the same money you’ll be looking at cars which are slightly older or have higher miles.
Peugeot 3008

The 3008 is a proper head-turner thanks to its space-aged styling, and the interior is stunning as well. It’s just a shame that the touchscreen is fiddly to use.
Volvo XC40

This stylish Swede comes packed with safety kit and it’s comfortable to drive, but the interior is starting to look dated compared to more modern alternatives.
