Used saloon cars FAQs

Yes, you absolutely should, assuming that a saloon fits your needs. Saloons are much lower-slung than the currently more popular breed of SUVs, which pays dividends when it comes to both fuel economy and electric car efficiency. Plus, saloons are often spacious and comfortable inside. A separate boot can be a bit of a limitation, but some ‘saloons’ get around that by actually having a ‘liftback’ boot, like a big, sleek hatchback, such as the Skoda Superb.

This depends very much on what you need. Want to watch the pennies? Get a Skoda Superb or Octavia. Want something stylish (that’s secretly affordable to run)? Get a BMW 3 Series. Want something electric? Try a Hyundai Ioniq 6. Want something with astonishing performance? Try a Mercedes-AMG E63 S.

Absolutely they are, just in smaller numbers these days as more and more car makers focus on SUVs. However, while the numbers have been withered (RIP VW Passat saloon, Toyota Avensis, Mazda 6, Ford Mondeo etc) there are still plenty of four-door saloons from which to choose, including the Audi A5 and A6, BMW 3 Series and 5 Series, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Skoda Octavia and Superb, Genesis G80, Mercedes C-Class and E-Class, Tesla Model 3, and VW ID.7. If you want to spend big money, there’s also the likes of the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S-Class, Rolls-Royce Ghost and Phantom, and the Bentley Flying Spur. Given that saloons tend to be more efficient as electric cars than SUVs, expect to see more four-doors launched in the coming years, too.
