Used MPV FAQs

You just can’t beat a SEAT Alhambra when it comes to used people carriers or MPVs. The big SEAT may have been out of production for a couple of years now, but it’s still a cracking buy for big families. The massive sliding side doors make loading up much easier, while the space for seven seats means no-one gets left at home. The 2.0-litre TDI diesel engines are long-lived and economical, and SEAT has a solid reputation for reliability.

Yes, you really should buy a new or used MPV, especially if you need seven seats. While there are plenty of 7-seater SUVs on the market, most of these are quite compromised when it comes to space in the cabin, meaning that the extra third row of seats is usually quite cramped. With an MPV, that’s less of an issue as their shape means that more of the vehicle’s cabin can be given over to passengers, so you tend to get seven full seats, rather than five seats and a couple of spares.

Yes, car companies still do make MPVs, even if their number has dwindled in recent years. The likes of the Volkswagen ID Buzz, Caddy Life, and Multivan are all MPVs, as are the Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Rifter, and Vauxhall Combo Life. There are the expensive likes of the Lexus LM and Mercedes V-Class and EQV, and while the Dacia Jogger kind of cosplays as an SUV, we all really know it’s an MPV at heart. There’s also the Ford Tourneo Connect, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, the Mercedes B-Class, and you can even still currently buy a Volkswagen Touran, which you absolutely should do as it’s excellent.
