  • Same power as before
  • New interior technology

Mercedes has given its two smallest electric SUVs a mid-life makeover. The new EQA and EQB get some refreshed styling, as well as new technology.

These alternatives to cars such as the BMW iX1 and Volvo C40 Recharge will hit UK driveways in early 2024, however pricing hasn’t been confirmed just yet.

New Mercedes EQA and EQB design

This is just a facelift for the new Mercedes EQA and EQB, so design changes are limited to a select few tweaks to freshen things up a bit.

Looking at the front of the EQA, there’s a new grille design with a star pattern on it, as well as slightly tweaked front bumper. The EQB gets a similar treatment, and it still has a more upright nose than the curvy EQA.

This boxy theme continues down the side of the Mercedes EQB. It has a funky-looking square shape to it, and the black cladding around the wheel arches lend it a slightly more rugged appearance.

As with the outgoing car, the EQA has a more rounded, almost egg-like shape down the side. Both cars are available with new 18-, 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels, and there are new shades of blue and silver available.

Looking at the rear, both cars get slightly redesigned tail lights with new LED signatures, as well as tweaked bumpers. Unlike on the petrol-powered Mercedes GLB, the EQB has a full-width light bar across the tailgate.

New Mercedes EQA and EQB batteries and motors

As well as the refreshed styling, the new Mercedes EQA and EQB have been given some tweaks to improve the range.

They both still have the same battery options as before, so you have a choice of either 66.5kWh or 70.5kWh packs. The changes have mostly been to the aerodynamics, such as a new ridge on the EQA’s tail lights to help smooth the air flow. Both cars also have improved tyres which boost efficiency.

As a result, the new Mercedes EQA has up to 348 miles of range. That’s an improvement of 32 miles over the current car. The EQB has a slightly less aerodynamic shape, and as a result it manages up to 333 miles on a charge.

Both cars are available with either a single motor on the front axle, or dual motors with all-wheel-drive. Power starts at 190hp in the single-motor models, rising to 228hp in mid-spec cars. Range topping versions get 292hp.

New Mercedes EQA and EQB interior

Both the Mercedes EQA and EQB have the same interior design, and it’s very similar to the one you get in the Mercedes A-Class hatchback.

Both cars come with two 10.25-inch touch screens as standard, and you no longer have the central touchpad to control the infotainment. All the car’s functions are now controlled using either the touchscreen or voice commands. That said, you do still have physical climate controls.

As for the design, you now have a new gloss black panel on the dashboard with illuminated three-pointed stars on it, and there’s a new steering wheel design as well.

New Mercedes EQA and EQB: when can you buy one?

The new Mercedes EQA and EQB will be available to order in early 2024, with first deliveries expected before the spring.

Pricing hasn’t been announced just yet, but you can bet it’ll cost slightly more than the outgoing cars. Expect a figure of roughly £55,000 for the EQA and around £60,000 for the EQB.
