Used Audi Q5 pros and cons
Is a used Audi Q5 a good car?
The Audi Q5 is almost a default choice for anyone wanting a family SUV with some posh, prestige badge appeal.
In the traditional Audi fashion, the Q5’s cabin is exceptionally well-made, but it’s all a bit heavy on the black-and-chrome, making it feel a bit cold. The touchscreen is pretty easy to use, though.
Practicality is good, although the Audi’s 510-litre boot is smaller than the 650 litres of the Jaguar F-Pace.
All Q5s are comfortable and nice to drive, and ideal for long motorway journeys but it’s a shame that adaptive cruise control was an optional extra. The diesels are economical, but the plug-in hybrid is a bit ‘jerky’ to drive around town and other SUVs are more fun on a twisty road.
Even so, the Q5 is a practical family hauler with more than a touch of class, and excellent quality levels.
What to look for when buying a used Audi Q5
Generally speaking the Q5 is reliable, but it’s been recalled quite a bit for problems as varied as brake issues and loose rear wheelarch liners.
The Q5 didn’t make the final list of the 2024 Driver Power Top 50 Cars To Own, but the related A4 saloon did, finishing in 44th position, and with quite poor marks for reliability and build quality, which doesn’t bode well for the Q5. Worse, Audi itself finished in a lowly 27th position out of 32 brands in the overall customer satisfaction survey, although with 21% of owners reporting faults with their cars, it wasn’t the worst-performing in that regard.
