Chery’s new hybrid SUV costs less than a basic Vauxhall Corsa

This is the new Chery Tiggo 4 – a small SUV with a hybrid engine and a sub-£20,000 price tag which should have the Dacia Duster very worried.
Another new Chinese SUV has hit the market. The Chery Tiggo 4 will go up against alternatives such as the Dacia Duster, Volkswagen T-Cross and Peugeot 2008 when order books open in a few weeks, but it has all of those cars beaten on price.
New Chery Tiggo 4 price and specs: how have they done it?
The Chery Tiggo 4 will start from just £19,995 when it goes on sale in the coming weeks, making it a couple of grand cheaper than a Dacia Duster and around £7,000 less than a Peugeot 2008.
What’s even more impressive is the fact this car will come with a hybrid engine as standard. Under the bonnet is a 1.5-litre petrol engine, mated to an electric motor and combined they make 204hp. The Tiggo 4 can also drive at low speeds using electric power alone, which will help keep fuel costs down.
The cheapest hybrid Dacia Duster will cost you almost £6,000 more than the Chery, while a hybrid Peugeot 2008 will set you back an extra £9,000.
Exact specs for the Chery Tiggo 4 haven’t been announced yet, but if other cars from this brand are anything to go by then you’ll get a generous amount of standard kit. Adaptive cruise control is likely, and heated seats will almost certainly be available on higher-spec models.
New Chery Tiggo 4 design: honey I shrunk the Tiggo 8
The Tiggo 4 almost looks like a Chery Tiggo 8 with a chunk cut out of it, which in a weird way makes it look kind of cute. It’s a bit like Mini Me from the Austin Powers movies.
The swept-back headlights and massive grille are similar to both the Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9 SUVs, and there’s a chunky rear light bar with a funky LED design as well. It’s nothing revolutionary, and a Peugeot 2008 will turn more heads, but it certainly looks more expensive than it is.
And this theme continues inside as well. There’s a modern-looking twin-screen setup on top of the dash, as well as some physical buttons for the climate control. The stitched leatherette material looks classy as well.
