Car changing is a big deal
Video project manager Giulia McCarthy has taken the keys to a Citroen e-C3 for six months to see how this dinky city car handles city life with a lively five year-old, and on first impressions she’s impressed with it.
This is my new Citroen e-C3, and it’s a bit of a change from my old daily driver. I used to run the massive, practical Citroen e-Berlingo, so you might be wondering why I’ve switched from the brand’s largest model to its smallest.
While the e-Berlingo was hugely practical and easy to drive, I live in busy North London and regularly find myself weaving in and out of tight streets. I therefore wanted to see if a car as small and nippy as the Citroen e-C3 could carry out all my usual driving errands, while being easier to manoeuvre around the urban jungle.
An introduction to my new Citroen e-C3
Let’s start by getting to know my new car. This is a Citroen e-C3 Max, which is the top-spec model.

This means I get posh features like heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a reversing camera. Not bad for a small affordable hatchback.
The only option fitted to my car is the 11kW charger, which drops the 0-100% charging time from six hours to four – assuming I hook up to a suitably beefy power supply. This costs an extra £360, bringing the total cost of my car to just over £24,000.

That makes it around the same price as an entry-level Hyundai Inster, though you can save an average of around £3,600 on a new e-C3 through Carwow.
Powering this car is a dinky 44kWh battery which Citroen claims will give it up to 199 miles of range. I’ll see how close I can get to that in reality over the coming months, but given we’re in the depths of winter I wouldn’t be surprised to see around 150 miles in reality.
First impressions of my new Citroen e-C3
I’ve been driving my new e-C3 for a few weeks now, and on first impressions I’m liking it.

For starters, I think it looks miles more stylish than my old boxy e-Berlingo, and the baby blue and white paint job is fab as well. I also quite like the interior design, especially the funky square steering wheel.
It’s comfy on the potholed streets of London as well. I’m impressed by how well this small car soaks up the bumps. I am already starting to find the warning beeps annoying though, so I’ll probably end up switching those off.
But how practical will this small car prove to be once I start ferrying the family around in it? Stay tuned for an update after I’ve settled into life with my new Citroen.
