New Jaecoo 5 alternatives: what is this new Chinese SUV going up against?
July 24, 2025 by Jamie Edkins

This is the new Jaecoo 5, the second SUV from this Chinese car brand. It looks a bit like a Jaecoo 7 which has been washed on too hot a setting, and it’ll be available with both petrol and electric power.
Prices start from £24,505, but what current models could you buy for that money? We’ve not driven the Jaecoo 5 yet, so we can’t judge it against any alternatives, but these are five examples of cars it’ll be up against.
Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.
- Toyota Yaris Cross
- Volvo EX30
- Renault Captur
- Volkswagen T-Cross
- Omoda 5
1. Toyota Yaris Cross

The Toyota Yaris Cross is a fantastic small SUV which is super economical and packed with kit. It may not look quite as snazzy as the Jaecoo, and it can be a bit fidgety over bumps, but you do get plenty of interior space and the raised driving position makes it easy to drive in town.
2. Volvo EX30

You’ll be able to get an all-electric version of the Jaecoo 5 at a later date, which will be an alternative to the stylish Volvo EX30. We already know that the Jaecoo has a bigger boot though, at 1,180 litres with the seats folded, so it’s more practical. The EX30 will still provide stiff competition though with its comfy suspension, chic interior and generous equipment list.
3. Renault Captur

The Renault Captur is a good-looking and practical small SUV with a big boot and a great Google-based infotainment system. Go for the hybrid model and you’ll also get over 60mpg, however it is a bit firm over bumps. You do also have to go for top-spec models to get desirable kit such as adaptive cruise control, something which comes as standard on the Jaecoo 5.
4. Volkswagen T-Cross

If you’re after something practical, the Volkswagen T-Cross is hard to ignore. It’s spacious inside, comfortable and easy to drive, although it’s not as stylish as the Jaecoo – even if you go for the Rubber Ducky Yellow paint scheme (yes, that’s the real colour name).
5. Omoda 5

The Omoda 5 is built by the same company as the Jaecoo 5, Chery Automotive, uses the same 1.6-litre engine and even has a similar price tag. The decision will most likely come down to which you like the look of most, or which has the biggest Carwow discounts.
