Can’t wait for the new Kia Sportage? Here are 7 alternatives to consider instead

June 06, 2025 by

The Kia Sportage is one of the most popular SUVs in the UK, and it’s just been given a facelift to keep it feeling fresh in 2025. It has updated styling, a tweaked interior and new technology.

You’ll be able to order a new Sportage in the next few weeks, and deliveries are expected to start later this year. But what if the Sportage doesn’t float your boat? If you’re after a family SUV which is available to order now, here are seven alternatives to consider.

And remember, you can still order the current Kia Sportage, and there are loads in stock available for delivery right away. You can also compare lease deals, look for a used Sportage and sell your current car right here.

  1. Skoda Karoq
  2. Kia EV6
  3. Dacia Bigster
  4. MG HS
  5. Nissan Qashqai
  6. Tesla Model Y
  7. BMW X1

1. Skoda Karoq – spacious, comfortable and easy to live with

The Skoda Karoq is simply a brilliant all-rounder. It has a massive boot, spacious rear seats which can slide forwards and backwards and it’s really comfortable to drive. It may not be the most exciting SUV out there, but the fuss-free cabin is easy to use thanks to physical knobs and switches which makes it easy to live with day-today.

2. Kia EV6 – A great electric car for Kia fans

Maybe you’re ready to make the switch to an electric car? Well the Kia EV6 is one of the best. You get impressive range, super fast charging and it’s great to drive, although the boot isn’t as big as the Sportage’s. It is more striking to look at though.

3. Dacia Bigster – more space for less cash

If value for money tops your list of priorities, you can’t beat the Dacia Bigster. Its boot is 86 litres bigger than the Sportage, and it has more rear legroom. And to top it all, a range-topping Bigster costs a few thousand pounds less than a basic Sportage. The cabin may not feel as posh, but at this price that’s easy to forgive.

4. MG HS – a great-value plug-in hybrid with impressive EV range

The MG HS is available with a brilliant plug-in hybrid system which gives you a whopping 75 miles of electric range, 45 miles more than a Sportage PHEV, and it’s around £8,000 cheaper to buy than that car. The infotainment system isn’t as slick as the Kia’s though.

5. Nissan Qashqai – Comfy, practical and nicely built

The Nissan Qashqai has been the default choice for many families for years, and it’s easy to see why. You get a practical and solid interior, although the boot is smaller than a Kia Sportage’s, it’s really comfortable to drive and you get lots of standard kit. A facelift in 2024 also added some much-needed style to what was a fairly drab-looking SUV.

6. Tesla Model Y – A high-tech electric SUV with a massive boot

For the same price as a high-spec Sportage you could have one of the best electric SUVs on the market. The Tesla Model Y is great to drive, offers impressive range and has an enormous 854-litre boot – 263 litres more than the Kia. The button-free cabin won’t suit everyone, but the infotainment system is really easy to use.

7. BMW X1 – A posh SUV which is sporty to drive

If your SUV just has to sport a posh badge on the nose, the BMW X1 can be yours for the same price as a high-spec Sportage. For just over £40,000 you can get an M Sport version with a nice bodykit, it’s good fun to drive and the interior is lovely – although the touchscreen-based climate controls are annoying to use on the move.
