1. Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut – 8.9 seconds

Taking the top spot is the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut. It has a 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 which runs on E85 race fuel, meaning it puts out an insane 1,600hp and 1,500Nm of torque. This is sent to the rear wheels only via a clever nine-speed multi-clutch gearbox with launch control – all the more impressive considering that the Jesko weighs in at just 1,390kg. Oh, and it’ll set you back £5m.

2. Tuned BMW M240i (1,100hp) – 8.9 seconds

The car taking silver is simply mental. Indeed, this tuned BMW M240i has a massive single turbo, a fully-built 3.0-litre engine, a new fuel system and an uprated gearbox. It also puts out a whopping 1,100hp to all four wheels, which is around twice as much as a standard M2.

3. Tuned BMW M240i (1,000hp) – 9.1 seconds

Funnily enough, the car rounding off the podium is also a tuned BMW M240i – only with 100hp less, hence why it was 0.2 seconds slower. This version has the basic guts of its standard engine under the bonnet, meaning it has a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six.

4. Xiaomi SU7 Ultra – 9.3 seconds

Just shy of the top three is a car we didn’t see coming. The SU7 Ultra, created by Chinese company Xiaomi Auto, has three electric motors – one on the front and two on the rear, and combined they send 1,548hp and 1,770Nm of torque to all four wheels. The one we tested weighs in at a rather hefty 2,360kg, and it costs the equivalent of around £55,000 in China.

5. Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport – 9.4 seconds

In the middle of the leaderboard for the fastest cars we’ve drag raced this year is the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport. It has a 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine with 1,500hp. It’s a wonder it can move with “just” 500hp more than a Formula 1 car! It also has all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and costs £5m.

6. Tuned BMW M3 Touring (1,000hp) – 9.4 seconds

Next up is the first estate car on this list. It has a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six engine which is far from standard. We’re talking about a fully-built engine and an ECU tune pushing it to around 1,000hp, and the gearbox has been upgraded to handle the extra power.

7. Tuned Volkswagen Golf R (1,000hp) – 9.5 seconds

The sole VW to crack the top 10 is an Mk7 Volkswagen Golf R. Instead of the stock 300hp 2.0-litre four-pot, the owner swapped in a 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine from an Audi RS3. This modified engine has been absolutely hammered with tuning, resulting in a whopping 1,034hp. That’s a massive leap from the RS3’s standard 400hp.

8. Tuned BMW M3 Touring (1,000hp) – 9.5 seconds

Taking eighth place is another M3 Touring. Forget the standard 510hp, 650Nm, 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six; this one’s got a fully-built engine and now kicks out an impressive 1,000hp and 1,100Nm of torque. All that power goes to the four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It weighs in at 1,865kg and will set you back £150,000 – that’s a hefty £60,000 more than the bog-standard M3 Touring.

9. Tuned BMW M4 (930hp) – 9.8 seconds

This BMW M4 owner has seriously upgraded their car, which shares its 3.0-litre straight-six with the M3. Thanks to a Stage 3 tune, a new inlet manifold, and some internal engine tweaks, it now churns out a massive 930hp to all four wheels. These mods helped it clock a rapid 9.8-second quarter-mile in one of our drag races.

10. Koenigsegg Jesko Attack – 9.9 seconds

To wrap up the top 10, we’ve got the Koenigsegg Jesko Attack with its 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8. It pumps out 1,280hp on regular fuel, or an insane 1,600hp if you use E85 race fuel, all going to the back wheels. You’re looking at around £3.35m for one, which is the £2.85m starting price plus an estimated £500,000 for options.
