Drag race: can the new Porsche 911 Turbo S beat a Ferrari?
June 27, 2026 by Mat Watson
If you’ve been following Carwow for a while now, you’ll know that the Porsche 911 Turbo S is one of my favourite cars to drag race. It’s ballistically fast and fires off the line like a missile, and now there’s a new one with hybrid tech and even more power.
But does it still have what it takes on the Carwow drag strip? To find out, I’m going to race it against the Ferrari 296 GTB. Let’s take a closer look at the stats.
Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.
New Porsche 911 Turbo S
The new Porsche 911 Turbo S has a 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, and it’s smaller than the 3.8-litre engine you used to get. However, it has a new hybrid system with electric turbos, meaning it puts out 711hp and 800Nm of torque.

That’s 60hp more than before, and power is still sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The car weighs in at 1,711kg, and it costs a whopping £200,000.
Ferrari 296 GTB
This Ferrari has a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine with a plug-in hybrid system, and combined you get 830hp and 740Nm of torque. This is sent to the rear wheels only, so getting this car off the line may be trickier than it is in the Porsche.

It also has an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and the 296 GTB tips the scales at 1,540kg. It’s also more expensive than the Porsche, costing around £240,000.
So this is going to be a close one. The Ferrari has a clear power and weight advantage, but getting that power to the ground via just the rear wheels could scupper its chances. Make sure to check out this week’s video to see what happens.
