Drag race: new Ferrari 296 vs Lamborghini Revuelto

This is the new Ferrari 296 Speciale, and it’s the fastest version of the brand’s plug-in hybrid supercar. It’s an alternative to the Lamborghini Temerario, but I reckon it could have what it takes to beat the larger Revuelto in a drag race.

New Ferrari 296 Speciale

Powering the 296 Speciale is a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, and this is mated to an electric motor just like the 296 GTS. However, whereas the GTS has 830hp, the Speciale has 880hp and 755Nm of torque.

Power is sent to the rear wheels only via an eight-speed gearbox, and it’s around 60kg lighter than the standard 296, coming in at 1,500kg. It’s pretty expensive though – this car cost its owner half a million pounds.

Lamborghini Revuelto

For similar money, you could have the Lamborghini Revuelto I’m sitting in. It has a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine with three electric motors, one between the engine and gearbox and two driving the front wheels.

Combined you get 1,500hp and 1,062Nm of torque, and the Lamborghini has four-wheel drive. However, it’s a lot heavier than the Ferrari, tipping the scales at 1,890kg.

That means the Revuelto has a power-to-weight ratio of around 560hp per tonne, whereas the Ferrari has more than 580hp per tonne. This will be a close race then.
