Drag race: can the Porsche Carrera GT beat this crazy V12-powered Jaguar?

I’m drag racing my favourite car of all time, the Porsche Carrera GT, against something else with a massive engine, rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox. Let’s take a look at some stats.

Porsche Carrera GT

Starting with the Porsche, it has a hand-built 5.7-litre naturally-aspirated V10 engine with 612hp and 590Nm of torque. This is fed to the rear wheels only via a six-speed manual gearbox and a notoriously delicate clutch; one which costs £50,000 to replace. No pressure then.

The car weighs in at 1,380kg, and these days it’s worth around £2 million. I’d better be careful then, especially seeing as it has no traction control to keep me on the straight and narrow.

TWR Supercat

So what exactly is the TWR Supercat? Well TWR helped Jaguar win at the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1988, and now it’s making 88 of these Jaguar XJS restomods.

It looks like an XJS which has gone crazy, and under the bonnet is a 660hp supercharged V12 engine, paired to a manual gearbox driving the rear wheels. The car also weighs less than 1,300kg.

It also has totally bespoke bodywork, an all-new interior, and a price tag of around £500,000.

Surprise entrant: Dodge Viper ACR

We’ve got Porsche representing Germany and TWR running for Britain, but what about something a bit more brash?

From the United States, we have a tuned Dodge Viper ACR on the start line as well. It has an 8.4-litre naturally-aspirated V10 engine which usually produces 608hp. This car has had an ECU remap and a new exhaust, so it has 650hp and 800Nm of torque.

It drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, and the car weighs around 1,500kg.

So what will happen? Three hugely powerful cars, all with rear-wheel drive and very few driver aids. Sounds fun, doesn’t it? Make sure you watch this week’s video to see the results.
