Drag race: can this bonkers 1,100hp BMW M2 drift car beat a Lamborghini Huracan?

Drag racing a Lamborghini Huracan Performante against a BMW M2 may seem like a pointless exercise, but this is no ordinary M2. Let’s take a closer look at the stats.

Red Bull BMW M2 drift car

Under the bonnet, this M2 has a 3.0-litre straight-six engine. Whereas the standard car has two turbochargers, this has been modded with one big turbo instead. It’s bolted onto a fully built engine which puts out 1,100hp and 1,200Nm of torque. That’s almost 2.5 times more power than a normal M2.

Drive is sent to the rear wheels only via a five-speed sequential gearbox, and it’s quite light as well. It tips the scales at around 1,300kg.

Lamborghini Huracan Performante

My Lamborghini is completely standard, meaning I have a 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 engine with 640hp and 600Nm of torque. This is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with launch control.

It’s a bit heavier than the BMW as well, coming in at 1,482kg.

So on paper it sounds like the M2 should walk this, but I don’t reckon it’ll be that simple. It may be way more powerful, and lighter than the Lambo, but it’s a drift car. That means it’s designed to spin up its rear wheels.

That’s less than ideal in a drag race, so I reckon this will be really close. I’m expecting the Huracan to get a much better start, but then the BMW will reel me in as we head up the runway.
