Abarth has celebrated its partnership with Yamaha motorcycles and its position as official sponsor of the MotoGP racing championship with a new version of its 500 hot hatch – the 595 Yamaha Factory Racing Edition.
Based on the powerful Abarth 500 version of the Fiat 500, the new edition comes with a host of mechanical upgrades and cosmetic details to add to the sporty look. The model’s available to order now so if you like its style, put the Abarth 500 in our car configurator to see how much carwow could help you save.
Under the bonnet is an upgraded version of the standard 500’s 1.4-litre turbocharged engine, with power increased from 140 to 160hp. Its 0-60mph time has improved from 7.9 seconds to an impressive 7.4 seconds, while fuel consumption and emissions remain the same.
Elsewhere, Abarth’s added lowered suspension and enhanced shock absorbers to ensure that the car handling is as sporty as it looks. A new exhaust system means the noise coming from the back is sure to rival more expensive hot hatches when driving down back roads.
On the outside, cosmetic additions are limited to 17-inch alloy wheels in matt-black, tinted rear windows, painted brake callipers and of course lots of ‘Yamaha Factory Racing’ badges. These are complimented inside by more badging, a flat bottom leather steering wheel and aluminium pedals.
The 595 Factory Racing Edition costs from £17,420 – a £2,810 increase over the standard 595 but that’s reasonably modest considering the performance and kit upgrades. Of course, this price can always be increased further with an optional leather interior, xenon headlamps and air conditioning.
