Seven seater MPVs are popular with families thanks to the versatility afforded by an extra row of seats. The kids will be happy there’s room for their friends but we’ve made sure the 10 large seven seaters on this list will fit adults in the back just as easily, too.
All the cars featured here are spacious, comfortable and robust – crucial factors in a family car. Spec up any of these models at our new car deals page to get great savings. Don’t need that much space? See our list of the best mini-MPVs or our top 10 overall best MPVs.
1. SEAT Alhambra
The SEAT Alhambra is a close relation of the Volkswagen Sharan and an excellent choice if you prioritise build quality and value for money. Interior trim is directly carried over, so it gets the same premium, upmarket feel in the cabin and should withstand whatever your kids can throw at it.
Space for all passengers is excellent, so you’ll manage to get seven adults in without fuss and, even with all seats in place, there’s still an impressive 267 litres of boot space. Being a relation of the Volkswagen means you get the same excellent engines to choose from, making the Alhambra kind to your wallet, too – with the pick being the 148hp 2.0-litre diesel.

2. Ford Galaxy
Not only is the Ford Galaxy a fantastic people mover but the latest model adds a touch of luxury to proceedings, too. All the interior materials have a premium feel and the dashboard is dominated by a fantastic eight-inch infotainment system that controls the plethora of clever tech in the cabin.
The reason to opt for a Galaxy over the smaller S-Max becomes clear inside – where the former struggles to squeeze in its rearmost seats, the Galaxy ensures even the tallest adults should have room to spare. Along with numerous cubby holes, the Galaxy has more boot space than many hatchbacks even with all the seats up. Just like Ford’s smaller cars, you’ll find the Galaxy an engaging, comfortable drive.

3. Volkswagen Sharan
The Volkswagen Sharan is the pricier relation of the Alhambra but, if equipment is more important than price, the Volkswagen is the one to go for. Even basic models feature climate control and a 6.5-inch infotainment system, while opting for higher trims will get you a slightly plusher interior than SEAT’s offerings.
Being effectively identical to the SEAT means you get the same great range of engines including the fantastic 2.0-litre diesel. Practicality wise, things are just as impressive as the Alhambra – there’s acres of rear passenger space and those sliding rear doors are sure to make life easier in car parks.

4. Citroen Grand C4 Picasso
Some MPVs are a little plain, but that can’t be said for the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso. Wacky looks helps it stand out from its rivals and, stepping inside, you’ll find the quirks continue – its instrument panel is actually an LCD display in the middle of the dashboard rather than in front of the driver.
Thanks to the uncluttered dash and huge windows, the interior feels airy and, like most Citroens, all passengers will enjoy supreme levels of ride comfort. The two seats in the boot can’t offer as much room as some, so they’re best left for the kids. That said, there’s a whopping 600 litres of boot space to be filled if you fold them flat.

5. Mercedes V-Class
The Mercedes V-Class is worth serious consideration if your budget can stretch to the £41,845 list price. It can be specced with six, seven or eight seats and, while previous generations couldn’t quite claim to have traditional Mercedes levels of refinement, the latest V-Class is one of the most refined and opulent people carriers around.
Even with eight seats, all passengers benefit from more room than any other car on this list, while also enjoying the lavishly appointed interior that includes posh leather and wood trim. Behind the wheel, it’s hard to disguise the V-Class’ bulk but all models feature a touchscreen sat nav and parking sensors – handy on a vehicle this size.

6. Ford Grand Tourneo Connect
While it can’t compete with the Galaxy’s luxury credentials, the Ford Grand Tourneo Connect is noticeably better value for money. What it lacks in creature comforts it makes up for with outright space – its boxy dimensions mean you’ll fit seven adults in with room to spare.
Although based on a van, it’s much more refined behind the wheel than you might expect, with excellent road holding and ride quality meaning it’s as refined as it is practical. If you don’t mind swapping style for substance, the Grand Tourneo Connect could be the vehicle for you.

7. Peugeot Expert Tepee
Yet another van-based MPV, the Peugeot Expert Tepee offers fantastic value for money thanks to its ability to seat up to nine. For those wanting the most seats for the cheapest price, this makes an excellent choice.
Don’t expect it to be the most refined vehicle to drive though – unlike the smaller Partner, the Expert Tepee can feel somewhat unwieldy around town. Equally, seven seaters are more expensive to insure than five seaters so you’ll find the extra seats will increase your premium a little – worth considering if they aren’t a necessity.

8. Peugeot 5008
The Peugeot 5008 is a practical, well made MPV and its flexible seating puts it ahead of some other choices. Although space is a little tight for rearmost passengers, the middle row can slide and recline to make up for any shortage of legroom. Everything in the cabin has a classy feel too and, even with all seats in place, there’s enough room for the weekly shop.
The high driving position makes it feel more SUV than MPV, while all the engines are at equally home around town and on the motorway. The best choice is the 1.6-litre diesel – it’ll make it cheap to run with over 50mpg claimed – impressive for a car this size.

9. SsangYong Turismo
The SsangYong Turismo is one of the biggest cars on this list and its unusual appearance and scarcety on UK roads make it one of the more exclusive cars on this list – but don’t let that put you off. The Turismo offers a capacious, durable cabin and engines and gearboxes built by Mercedes for a very attractive price.
Thanks to its five-metre wheelbase, all seven passengers will have more than enough legroom, while the 2-2-3 seating arrangement means there’s enough room for an adult to walk between the front and rear seats. With 675 litres of boot space, there’s more than enough room for all seven passengers’ luggage, too. You can even spec a four-wheel-drive system, too.

10. Hyundai i800
The Hyundai i800 has similar interior dimensions to the Mercedes V-Class, but that’s where the similarities end. It’ll seat eight, but don’t expect anywhere near the opulence the Mercedes delivers – hard-wearing plastics and simple upholstery are the order of the day. This is reflected in its price though – at around £23,000, it provides an enormous amount of space for the money.
Things aren’t terrible behind the wheel, either, thanks to its well set up suspension and a 2.5-litre diesel engine that provides more than enough power to make the i800 a respectable long distance cruiser. While it’s reasonably refined, you won’t see much over 33mpg, putting it some way off more efficient competitors.
To get a good price, spec up a Hyundai i800 in our deals page – you’ll get great offers from only the top Hyundai dealers.
