Is the DS No7 E-Tense a good car?
Making its debut alongside its hybrid No7 counterpart, the DS No7 E-Tense is an all-electric family SUV with seriously striking looks and a posh interior, while travelling an impressive 460 miles in Long Range guise. It could be a bit quicker to charge, though.
There are a few alternatives to consider the No7 E-Tense against, such as the mechanically similar Peugeot E-3008 and Citroen e-C5 Aircross. The former is style-focused while the latter represents great value for money, but looking away from those French options you could opt for the Kia EV5, Tesla Model Y or Xpeng G6 instead.
None of the others, however, look quite as sharp as the DS. Okay, maybe the Peugeot does, but the No7 E-Tense’s dramatic lights at both ends, neat grille, bling wheel options and heavily-creased flanks look great. It’s like a pair of Adidas trainers, designed in collaboration with a fashion label. Near enough the same underneath, but with a bit more edge to its styling.
The cabin is just as attractive, with a very quirky - very intricate - design theme. The centre console and prominent door speakers feature an etched pattern to them while the door cards and seats are heavily embroidered. Ambient lighting on the wraparound dashboard and doors adds a bit of extra class, too.
Most notably, the 16.0-inch widescreen infotainment display in the middle of the dashboard looks very swish. It’s a shame that it’s also home to the climate controls, as that’s often fiddly to use, but they do have dedicated panels at either side.
I really like the Peugeot E-5008, so hopefully the No7 E-Tense can follow suit
You’ll find a wireless phone charging pad beneath the dashboard, with storage space beneath it and a hidden cubby between the seats which hopefully contains hidden cupholders, as there aren’t any on show. We’ll confirm once we get behind the wheel of the No7 E-Tense.
You’ll find 560 litres of boot space in the back of the DS, with an adjustable-height floor that can still hide the charging cables in its lowest setting. Getting them out if you’ve got a bulky item in the back won’t be fun, though, and unlike the Kia EV5 and Changan Deepal S07, there isn’t a front boot to use instead.
There are two battery options, with the smaller 73.7kWh unit offering up to 334 miles on a full charge. The Long Range front-wheel drive version can manage an impressive 460-mile figure, while the dual-motor version takes a small hit at 422 miles. Both use a larger 97.2kWh battery, but all versions can only charge at 160kW - down on alternatives.
The Peugeot E-3008, E-5008 and Citroen e-C5 Aircross are some of the most comfortable cars on sale at the moment. If the DS ramps up the refinement levels to go with its higher price point and poshness level, then we’re expecting great things.

How much is the DS No7 E-Tense?
There isn’t a definitive UK price guide yet, but the DS No8 saloon costs around £1,000 less in Britain than it does in France. It’s a safe bet to assume the No7 E-Tense will follow this pattern and kick off at around £41,000 in FWD Pallas trim. The Long Range, AWD La Premiere model would therefore cost a mighty £66,000. Ouch.
As standard, Pallas models come with a phone charging pad, keyless entry-and-go, heated front seats, front and rear parking sensors with a reversing camera, electric tailgate and sound-insulating glass.
Etoile versions come on larger 19- or 20-inch wheels, and they’re fitted with an illuminated front grille, 360-degree cameras, automatically-dimming rear-view mirror, comfort seats with neck warmers and an on-board air purifier.
La Premiere is the range-topping trim, celebrating the No7 E-Tense launch with 21-inch wheels, a Focal sound system, ‘lounge’ seats with heated steering wheel and windscreen, plus a bespoke bonnet badge and - wait for it - a nappa leather bracelet, just for you.
