Drag race: Bentley Continental GT Speed Le Mans vs Bentley Speed 8

Mat’s taking on this iconic car in the Bentley Continental GT Speed Le Mans edition, a limited-run model inspired by the Speed 8 itself. Just 48 will be made, and they’re all sold out. It costs £330,000, over £100,000 more than a standard Continental GT Speed, despite having exactly the same performance figures. Under the bonnet is a 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 with 660hp and 900Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and it’s on the heavy side at 2,198kg.

That heft is mostly thanks to the acres of dead cow lining  the cabin, something the Speed 8 does without. After all, you don’t win at Le Mans by carrying unnecessary weight around, so this car tips the scales at 905kg. Powering it is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 600hp and a six-speed sequential gearbox. This being the actual car which won Le Mans back in 2003, it’s worth quite a lot. Bentley estimate the value at between £10 and 15 million.
