The Mercedes EQS has been given a larger battery, as well as some front-end styling tweaks.

  • Updated Mercedes EQS revealed
  • Larger battery for luxury EV
  • Now has over 500 miles of range
  • Slightly tweaked front-end styling
  • Hyperscreen infotainment system now standard
  • On sale later this year

The Mercedes EQS was already one of the longest range electric cars you could buy, and now a new battery pack has increased that range even further.

Single motor versions can now do over 500 miles on a charge, over 100 miles more than the BMW i7and this technology will soon make its way into the EQE as well.

New Mercedes EQS batteries and range

The Mercedes EQS already had one of the longest ranges of any electric car, with the single motor 450+ managing 464 miles from its massive 108kWh battery. Well it now has an even bigger pack at 118kWh, and as a result the EQS 450+ will now do up to 511 miles on a single charge on the WLTP cycle.

So how does that stack up against the alternatives? Well the BMW i7 can manage 386 miles of range, while the Tesla Model S will do up to 394 miles. The next closest EV in terms of range is the Fisker Ocean with 440 miles of range, still over 70 miles down on the EQS.

New Mercedes EQS: what else has changed?

In addition to the bigger battery, the Mercedes EQS has also been given some jewellery up front. You now get the upright three-pointed star on the bonnet, and the blanked-off grille has some silver strakes in place of the logo.

The ‘Hyperscreen’ infotainment system now comes as standard as well, something which was a £7,995 optional extra on some models when the EQS was launched. This means you now get a massive bank of screens across the whole dashboard, totalling over 55.0-inches wide.

When can I buy the new Mercedes EQS?

The new Mercedes EQS will be available to order in Germany later this month, with UK order books opening up shortly afterwards. This luxury EV currently starts from £112,610, and this isn’t expected to change much for the updated car.
