Electric cars are getting more popular by the day, and there are loads of new EVs coming before 2030. These are 10 of the best electric cars coming in the next few years.
In 2016, there were just 14 different electric cars on sale in the UK. In 2026, there are more than 160 to choose from. That number is only going up, because there are loads of new and exciting EV models coming before 2030.
We’ve picked 10 of the most important new electric cars which you can look forward to over the next few years, with everything from tiny city runarounds to fully-electric sports cars.

1. Audi A2 e-tron
Audi is reviving the A2 nameplate on a new electric car. The A2 e-tron bears a strong resemblance to the groundbreaking 00s hatchback, and it’ll provide an all-electric alternative to the brand’s own A3 as well as the Cupra Born.
Technical specs are thin on the ground, but it will use a 61kWh battery which we expect will give it more than 300 miles of range. A full reveal is coming in the autumn, and prices could start from around £35,000.
2. BMW M3
The new BMW M3 is going electric for the first time, and our spy photographers have spotted it out and about during development testing on the Nurburgring. It’ll look like a beefed-up version of the i3 saloon, with styling cues from the Concept Neue Klasse.
It’ll also have four electric motors, which could put out as much as 800hp combined. Petrolheads don’t need to start wielding pitchforks just yet though, because there will also be a version which uses a heavily-revised version of the 3.0-litre engine in the current M3. The electric car could be revealed this year, with the petrol model coming soon after.
3. Dacia Spring
The Dacia Spring is being replaced very soon, and the new car will share parts under the skin with the excellent Renault Twingo. That should make it much nicer to drive than the current car, which is wayward through the corners and unrefined on the motorway.
It’ll almost certainly have more range as well. The current Spring will do up to 140 miles on a charge, whereas the Twingo can do more than 160 miles. A full reveal of this car is coming in September this year, which is when we’ll have the full specs.
4. Jaguar Type 01
No car has caused quite such a stir as the Jaguar Type 01. After killing off all its existing saloons and SUVs, Jaguar unveiled a bonkers-looking concept car called the Type 00, along with an exuberant rebrand which got plenty of eyes on it.
The production version is called the Type 01, and it comes after Jaguar took a two-year break from making cars to focus on this four-door electric luxury saloon. It has three electric motors with over 1,000hp combined, and the car will be revealed in September this year.
5. Ford Fiesta
The Ford Fiesta was put out to pasture in 2023, but it’s making a comeback. The new one is coming in 2028, and it’ll be an electric hatchback which is based on the Renault 5 and Nissan Micra.
That means it’ll almost certainly use a 54kWh battery with around 250 miles of range. The Renault 5 is also a cracking starting point for the new Fiesta, because it’s really fun to drive on a twisty road – just like a Fiesta should be.
6. Kia EV1
Kia is gearing up to reveal a new, Picanto-sized electric car to take on the new Renault Twingo and Dacia Spring. This means it’s likely to cost less than £20,000, and you can expect similar, boxy styling to the larger EV2 SUV.
News of the EV1 was first broken by our sister publication Auto Express, which reports that this car will arrive in 2028 with an all-new collection of parts. That makes it tricky to speculate on range, but expect it to do around 160 miles on a charge to keep the price down, and to keep it competitive with the Twingo.
7. Porsche Cayman and Boxster
The Porsche Cayman and Boxster were both discontinued late last year, but Porsche is hard at work developing their replacements. They’ll be going electric for the first time, but petrol versions will also be available.
To make sure the EVs are as agile as possible, they could use an upright, mid-mounted battery pack to improve weight distribution. Technical details are scarce right now, but they could also use the 435hp rear motor from the Mission R Concept. All will be revealed when the car is unveiled in the coming months.
8. Rivian R2
Rivian is an American car maker which has been selling massive electric SUVs and trucks in the States for a few years. Now though, it’s launched the R2 – a Tesla Model Y alternative which will eventually make its way to Europe.
Mat Watson has tested the R2, and he was hugely impressed by the performance, interior, practicality and off-road ability. It’ll be a few years before this car makes it to the UK, and when it does it’s likely to cost around £50,000.
9. Skoda Vision 0
Skoda’s range of electric cars are currently all SUVs, but it’s also working on an electric estate car which could replace the Octavia before 2030. It’s just a concept for now, called the Vision 0.
It looks awesome, and the spacious interior is packed with all the clever features you’d expect from a Skoda. There are bins which slide out of the boot opening, and there are physical buttons in the cabin. It could also share parts with the Volkswagen ID7, which means over 400 miles of range is possible.
10. Volkswagen ID1
Last but not least, the Volkswagen ID1 is another future Renault Twingo alternative which will cost less than £20,000. The IDEvery1 concept gives us an idea of what it’ll look like, as well as a first look at the interior.
It’s very similar inside to the new ID Polo, meaning it has a large central touchscreen and physical buttons for the climate control. Volkswagen also says this car will have “at least” 155 miles of range, and it’ll arrive in 2027.
