Our first pick of the week, the Toyota C-HR, has bold styling and fuel-efficient hybrid engines, though it’s pricier than alternatives such as the Hyundai Kona. Inside, build quality is solid but lower trims feature basic infotainment and grey plastics; top trims add suede-like trim and better tech.
Front seats are comfortable with good storage, and the ride quality excels: smooth on rough roads and fun on twists, though the engines can sound coarse under load. Rear space is limited, though, and the 388-litre boot is smaller than competitors.

Inside, it has a slick Google-powered infotainment system and an optional Solarbay roof, a smart glass that shifts from clear to opaque at the touch of a button.

The Skoda Elroq features a clean, futuristic design with slim headlights and a sensor-hidden grille. Inside, a sleek, minimalist dashboard houses a large infotainment screen, with optional fabric or leatherette trim. Comfortable, adjustable seats – boost everyday practicality.
