Car changing is a big deal
Our social content creator Cameron Kalare has spent the last few months with the new Toyota Prius, and he reckons it has shaken its hum-drum image. Cameron shares his thoughts here.
When you think of the Toyota Prius, one of two things probably come to mind. Either you think back to the rather scathing review of the second-generation car by a certain J. Clarkson, or you think “oh good, my Uber is here”.
The Prius has always been a very good car. Every generation has been comfortable, economical and reliable, it’s just never been all that exciting.
Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

Well I reckon the latest car flips this on its head, because after a few months with one I think the Prius is finally cool.
This new design is a huge step up over the previous models, and that’s despite the fact the Prius has retained its egg-like silhouette. The pointy front bumper and sleek headlights look great, and the rear light bar gives it a more premium appearance.
The Mustard metallic paint job (yes, that is its real name) helps my car stand out even more. It really pops in the sun.

And it’s not just a looker, the Prius is great to drive. I cover a lot of miles capturing content for our social media channels, and this is a comfy cruiser. The suspension does a great job of soaking up the bumps around South London, and it’s smooth and quiet on the motorway.
The fuel economy is also decent so far. The Prius hasn’t dipped below 50mpg during my time with it, which is pretty impressive seeing as I don’t get the chance to plug it in very often to make the most of its 40-mile all-electric range.
I do have a couple of niggles though. While the interior looks good and is well-made – it feels much more premium than previous versions – the buttons on the centre console are awkwardly placed. I quite often press them by accident when resting my arm in a comfortable position.

I’m struggling to get on with the dashboard layout as well. Toyota has fitted a small steering wheel and the driver’s display set above it, a bit like in our Peugeot 208, but in my ideal driving position the rim of the wheel can block the screen.
Minor gripes aside though, I’m really enjoying my time with the Toyota Prius. It’s now a desirable-looking car you’d be proud to park on your driveway, rather than an appliance you use to simply move from point A to point B.
About my Toyota Prius
Here’s a quick rundown of the spec on my Toyota Prius.
This is a top-spec Excel model, meaning it comes loaded with kit as standard. It has adaptive cruise control, heated and ventilated leather seats and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It’s also a plug-in hybrid with a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor, and combined they produce 223hp. It can around 40 miles on electric power alone if you keep the battery charged up.
All-in, this Toyota Prius will cost you just over £41,000, but make sure to check out the latest offers on Carwow, because at the time of writing you can save an average of over £4,000.
