  • Every Peugeot will be available as an EV before 2025
  • 280 miles of range from a 58kWh battery
  • 210hp front-mounted electric motor
  • Same design as the petrol and hybrid models

This is the new Peugeot E-408 – an all-electric version of the swoopy four-door coupe with up to 281 miles of range.

The launch of this car means that Peugeot buyers are spoiled for choice, because every model is now available in either petrol, hybrid or EV flavours. The only model left with no electric version is the 508, and that’s due to go off sale in December.

New Peugeot E-408 motors and batteries

The new Peugeot E-408 joins the petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, and it uses a 58kWh battery with up to 280 miles of range. That’s 30 miles more than the E-308 hatchback can manage.

It’s also just over 20 miles more range than the mechanically-similar Citroen E-C4 X has – mostly thanks to a slightly bigger battery, and the entry-level Tesla Model Y only has a few miles more. The E-408 can fast charge at up to 120kW DC, meaning 20-80% is achievable in just over 30 minutes. That’s not as impressive as the Kia EV6, which can top up from 10-80% in 18 minutes at 350kW.

This Peugeot has a single electric motor driving the front wheels, and the power output is dictated by the driving mode you’re in. The default setting gives you 190hp, while flicking it into Sport mode will deliver 210hp. For more efficient driving you can select Eco mode, which throttles the power back to 170hp.

New Peugeot E-408 price and specs

The new Peugeot E-408 will go on sale in the coming weeks, however exact pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet. A starting figure of around £45,000 would put it in line with alternatives such as the Kia EV6 and Tesla Model Y.

There’s very little to separate this electric car from the petrol and hybrid versions of the 408 in terms of styling. You can think of the range as being a bit like a bag of Revels – they’re hard to tell apart by looks alone, but they all offer a very different flavour beneath the shell.

All cars come with heated seats and a heated steering wheel as standard, as well as a 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice commands and an energy-efficient heat pump – so you can warm up the cabin without losing too much of your precious range.
