Is the Vauxhall Mokka Black a good car?

The Vauxhall Mokka is a small SUV that has sharp styling, decent levels of equipment and has some serious competition in the form of the Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur, Skoda Kamiq and VW T-Cross.

But this Black edition adds a darker edge to the Mokka’s already sharp look – like choosing an all-black outfit to look a bit cooler.

The overall design of the Mokka stays the same, so that means crisp lines across the front, a higher ride compared to the car it shares a lot of the parts with – the small Corsa hatchback – and a nice rear as well.

Where the Black specification differs is that you get the choice of different paint colours and new wheels compared to the standard Mokka. You can choose between Vulcan Grey (only offered with this model) and Carbon Black, while you now get gloss black 18-inch alloy wheels.

The badging around the car is in gloss black, as if the name wasn’t quite enough, while you also get a black roof and tinted windows.

The darker theme continues inside. The main changes are that you get a black roof liner and black cloth upholstery on the seats with black leather inserts. This special edition also gets a 12.0-inch touchscreen and a 10.0-inch driver’s display.

Based on the GS Line of the standard Mokka, that means you also get advanced park assist with a 180-degree rear camera, blind spot alert, flank guard protection and automatic emergency braking.

If you’re after a meaner version of the good-looking Mokka, this Black edition will be the car for you

You also get LED headlights, foglights and taillights, and keyless entry and start.

There’s two engines you can choose from – both are 1.2-litre turbocharged petrols. You can pick the 130hp version with a six-speed manual, or a 136hp unit with an eight-speed automatic.

Prices for the Mokka Black are £27,575 for the manual model, while the automatic version starts from £29,170.

Fundamentally, it will be the same to drive as the standard Mokka, but once we do drive this new model, we’ll update the review to give you the complete story.
