Drag race: new BMW M2 vs Audi RS3 vs Mercedes-AMG A45 S vs Porsche Boxster GTS

Mat’s behind the wheel of the BMW for this drag race. Under the bonnet is the same basic 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six engine as you’ll find in the BMW M3 and M4, only here it has 460hp and 550Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and the M2 weighs in at 1,725kg. As for price, the new M2 will set you back £64,890.

First to face the BMW is the Audi RS3. It has a 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine with 400hp and 500Nm of torque, going to all four wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox. It’s a fair bit lighter than the M2 as well, tipping the scales at 1,570kg. It’s also cheaper than the BMW with a price tag of £54,000.

Then we have the Mercedes-AMG A45 S. Powering all four wheels is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 421hp and 500Nm of torque. It has a nine-speed automatic gearbox and the car weighs in at 1,635kg, bang in the middle of the other two cars. It also sits between those cars in price, costing £63,000.

Finally we have a bit of a wildcard, because We’ve lined up a Porsche 718 Boxster GTS. Sitting in the middle of the car is a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six engine with 400hp and 430Nm of torque. That may be down on the other cars, however it’s the lightest car here at 1,435kg. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox, and this car will set you back £75,300.
