The facelifted 2019 Mercedes GLC Coupe SUV has been spotted testing. The revised car gets a new infotainment system with larger screens and a revised range of more efficient engines.
2019 Mercedes GLC Coupe SUV price and release date
The facelifted Mercedes GLC Coupe is set to keep the price of the current car, which starts from around £42,000 – allowing it to compete with alternatives such as the BMW X4. You can expect to see the model at the Paris Motor Show in October with a release date set for late 2018/early 2019.
2019 Mercedes GLC Coupe SUV styling
Rather than a wholesale restyle, you can expect the GLC Coupe to get a nip and tuck that’ll keep it looking fresh next to the newer BMW X4. As a result, the changes made to the Mercedes will amount to a revised grille and lower bumper and new tail lights with distinctive LED light signatures. A revised choice of colours and a updated range of alloy wheels will complete the look.
2019 Mercedes GLC Coupe SUV interior
You’ll find the changes inside will also be minor, but welcome – for a start, the basic-looking 7-inch screen fitted to basic models grow will grow in size to more than 8-inches and should also get more detailed graphics that’ll be a bit improvement on the pixely display found in the current model. The system in more expensive trims will also get a bigger screen – up from 8.4 to 10.25-inch in size, it’ll be available as part of a £2,500 pack that includes an upgraded stereo, keyless entry, electric seats and ambient lighting.
For the first time, you’ll be able to get the Mercedes GLC Coupe with a 12.3-inch digital display that replaces the conventional dials behind the steering wheel. It’ll allow you to switch between a number of screens including a huge map that’ll make the sat-nav very easy to follow. Annoyingly, though, the GLC Coupe won’t be available with the amazing augmented display you can get in the cheaper Mercedes A-Class.2019 Mercedes GLC Coupe SUV engines
You can expect the 2019 Mercedes GLC Coupe SUV to come fitted with the same 2.0-litre diesel engine as the new Mercedes C-Class saloon. It replaces the 2.1-litre diesel engine in the current 220d.
Despite its smaller capacity, the new 220d increases power from 170 to 194hp, so it should feel significantly quicker than the current model, yet you can expect fuel economy to improve by 10mpg to around 65mpg.
2019 Mercedes GLC Coupe SUV hybrid
The new Mercedes GLC Coupe is also likely to be offered as a plug-in hybrid diesel-electric car, with the technology carried over from the C-Class saloon.
The hybrid would be exempt from paying London’s congestion charge and would be capable of driving on clean and silent electric power alone for up to 31 miles – making it ideal for short journeys in town. Performance would be impressive, but you would expect the official fuel economy figure (Mercedes quotes 134mpg in the C-Class) to nosedive on longer drives.
That said, Mercedes’ latest hybrid system can use information taken from the car’s sat-nav to make best use of its battery power. For example, conserving it on the motorway before switching to electric power in the city. The large battery would also be used to power the car’s ancillaries, allowing you to preheat and cool the interior remotely.
