This cavernous family car isn’t an SUV, but it is a second-hand bargain

It’s a brilliant car if you’re after something practical, comfortable and well-equipped, but if you want similar space for less cash then check out the previous-generation version through Carwow.

The latest Skoda Superb is a fantastic all-rounder. It has a boot big enough to put a lot of big SUVs to shame, palatial legroom in the rear and it’s so relaxing to drive that it took home the Comfortable Cruiser award in the Carwow Car Of The Year Awards 2025.

We’ve actually been living with a Superb for six months now, and you can see what it’s like as a daily driver in our long-term report. It’s good value for money as well, but what if you want similar levels of space for much less cash?

Well for that you’ll want to check out the previous generation Skoda Superb. I’ve found some great deals on used examples through Carwow which could save you more than £15,000 over the cost of a new one.

Used Skoda Superb deals – prices start from under £20,000

A quick look on Carwow and I found a tidy 2022 Skoda Superb diesel with 41,000 miles on the clock for just under £19,000, but the one which really caught my eye was a 2023 Laurin and Klement model.

Our long-term Superb is an L&K model, and it’s the most luxurious version you can buy. This used example has heated and cooled leather seats, adaptive cruise control, matrix LED headlights and wireless smartphone mirroring.

This is also the most powerful Superb available, with a 280hp petrol engine under the bonnet and all-wheel drive. It may not be the most economical, but it’s packing plenty of punch.

It’s got less than 16,000 miles on the clock, and this car can be yours for £28,800. That’s £15,000 less than it cost new, and it’s over £20,000 cheaper than a new Superb L&K with a similar engine.

Used Skoda Superb quick review: Why I love this car

The previous generation of Skoda Superb is a fantastic family car. It’s got hugely roomy rear seats, a massive 625-litre boot and it’s a really comfortable cruiser. The latest car may be slightly more refined, but there’s not a huge amount in it.

It’s almost boringly good as an all-rounder. Something like a BMW 5 Series will be more exciting, but as a faithful companion to ferry the family around on long road trips the Skoda Superb is really hard to beat.

Used Skoda Superb alternatives

Not sold on the Skoda Superb? Well here are three other used cars you could consider for similar money.

Skoda Kodiaq

If an SUV driving position is non-negotiable for you, why not check out the Skoda Kodiaq? It offers pretty much all the same no-nonsense practicality as the Superb but in a jacked-up bodyshell, although it’s equally dull if you consider yourself a petrolhead.

Kia Optima

If you’ve got your sensible hat firmly on, the Kia Optima is a forgotten family car which is well-worth considering. It’s practical, well-equipped and cheap as chips these days – with used prices starting from around £15,000. Some may even still have a bit of warranty left. Just don’t expect a particularly posh interior.

Peugeot 508

For a bit of French Flair you could check out the Peugeot 508. It’s striking to look at, has a lovely interior which is much more interesting than the Superb’s and it’s good to drive, it’s just not quite as practical as the cavernous Skoda.
