Drag race: BMW M3 Touring vs Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate

Mat’s taken a fancy to the BMW M3 Touring today. Under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six with 510hp and 650Nm of torque, powering all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It’s pretty heavy for a 3 Series, tipping the scales at 1,865kg. It’s also quite expensive at £87,825.

Going head-to-head with the BMW is the Mercedes-AMG E63 S. It’s packing a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with 612hp and 850Nm of torque. Like the BMW it has all-wheel drive, and this car has a nine-speed multi-clutch gearbox. It’s also a bit heavier than the BMW at 1,940kg. In terms of price, this 2019 car is worth just over £80,500 today, however it was worth around £110,000 when it was new.
