Drag race: BMW X3 M50i vs Porsche Macan GTS vs Mercedes-AMG GLC 43

August 16, 2025 by

I’ve managed to get hold of the new BMW X3 M50i for a drag race, and until the full-fat X3 M comes along this is the fastest version you can buy.

But how will it fare against the Porsche Macan GTS and Mercedes-AMG GLC 43? Let’s find out.

Here are the stats on these cars.

New BMW X3 M50i

I’m driving the BMW for this race, and under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine with 398hp and 580Nm of torque, which drives all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The X3 M50i weighs in at 1,980kg, and it costs from £71,000. However, through Carwow you can get one for just over £65,000 at the time of writing.

Porsche Macan GTS

The Porsche Macan GTS has a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 with 440hp and 550Nm of torque, which is linked to a seven-speed automatic gearbox and a four-wheel drive system.

It tips the scales at 1,960kg, and costs from £75,000 when new. Fancy this performance SUV for less? I found a 2021 example with low miles for just under £50,000 on Carwow, so make sure to check out the latest used deals.

Mercedes-AMG GLC 43

Finally we come to the odd car out, because the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 is the only car here with a four-cylinder engine. It’s the same turbocharged unit as you’ll find in the AMG A45 S hot hatch, and it puts out 421hp and 500Nm of torque.

Power is sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox, and the GLC weighs in at 1,995kg. Despite being two cylinders down on the BMW and the Porsche, this Mercedes is the most expensive car here. It costs £88,590.

So then, which of these cars will come out on top? Make sure you watch this week’s video to find out.
