2022 Volkswagen Taigo teased: prices, specs and release date
Volkswagen has confirmed a new small SUV is on the way, possibly as soon as 2022. Read on for full details.
- New Volkswagen Taigo confirmed
- coupe-like SUV to sit alongside T-Cross
- Sleeker body style
- Petrol engines at launch
- Could be priced around £19,000
A new coupe-like SUV has been revealed by Volkswagen — named the Taigo. It’ll be about the size of T-Cross and is based on the VW Nivus, a small SUV that’s only sold in Brazil. It’s set to be an alternative to the Ford Puma and Seat Arona.
2022 Volkswagen Taigo design
These drawings are your first look at the upcoming Volkswagen Taigo, and give a good preview of how the final car will look. It’s visually similar to the T-Cross SUV, albeit with some sportier tweaks.
The biggest difference is the roofline, which now slopes off towards the rear. There’s also a more aggressive front bumper for this R-Line spec drawing, with a light bar that’s near-identical to the T-Cross’ at the rear albeit with a slightly more angular LED design.
Those exhaust exits are the rear are likely to be fake on the final car though, and don’t expect to see wheels quite that large.
2022 Volkswagen Taigo interior
The Volkswagen Taigo will likely have an interior all-but-identical to the Volkswagen T-Cross. This would mean a pretty well laid out, albeit rather unexciting cabin — although you’ll likely get some options to customise the dashboard panels for a bit more pizzazz.
Boot space and rear headroom will likely take a hit as a result of the sloped roofline, though.
2022 Volkswagen Taigo engines
The Taigo will launch exclusively with petrol engines, though Volkswagen hasn’t said exactly what yet. You can bet it’ll be a 1.0-litre engine though, in varying power outputs. There might even be a 1.5-litre option if Volkswagen is feeling particularly kind.
Don’t expect an electric or hybrid version at launch, if at all though.
2022 Volkswagen Taigo price and release date
No word yet on when the Volkswagen Taigo will enter production, though it could go on sale as early as 2022.
Expect pricing to be similar to the Volkswagen T-Cross, albeit slightly higher — possibly starting around the £19,000 mark.
