This is the new Nissan Leaf, and it’s been thoroughly modernised compared to the car it replaces. Here are five cool features on this new EV.

The Nissan Leaf was one of the first electric cars to properly take off in the UK. The name has been around since 2010, and the third-generation model has recently been revealed.

It’s sleeker outside, more modern inside and gets vastly improved range over the outgoing model. We had the chance to poke around this car at the reveal in London, and you can find out more about the specs in our full news story. For now though, here are five cool features on the new Nissan Leaf.

Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

  1. Video game taillights
  2. Clever panoramic roof
  3. Practical boot divider
  4. Energy-efficient heating
  5. Secret storage

1. Video game taillights

The rear lights on the new Nissan Leaf look really cool. The shape has been inspired by the Z sports car, and they have a 3D effect which looks a bit like something out of an old Atari game. It almost looks like a tunnel when you look at them straight on.

2. Clever panoramic roof

There’s no traditional sun blind for the panoramic glass roof – it can actually darken in segments at the touch of a button. This isn’t a new feature in the car world, but it’s usually reserved for much higher-end cars than the humble Leaf. There’s even a Leaf logo etched into the panel.

3. Practical boot divider

Having a big boot is great, but if you’re just carrying one or two shopping bags you can find they roll around. No one likes getting home to a split bottle of milk that’s flung across the car at a roundabout. Well the Leaf has a simple solution – a two-piece boot floor which can be flipped up into a divider. This keeps your smaller items contained, and there are even hooks on it to secure your bags.

4. Energy-efficient heating

This one’s a bit nerdy, but it could save you money on electricity. The Leaf’s heating, battery and charging systems are all linked into one system, so it can use wasted heat from one component to warm up another. For example, it can recover heat from the on-board charger and use it to warm up the battery for faster and more efficient charging.

5. Secret storage

You’d never guess there was a glovebox here…

One glovebox is great, but do you know what’s better? Two gloveboxes. The second one is so well-hidden that we had to get someone from Nissan to point it out to us, but you push a button under the centre of the dashboard and a secret door drops down. You can hide stuff in there and no one will ever find it – unless they’ve read this article.
